What does it mean to be on the line shack? Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Are there quals they can get when they are doing this.... does everyone serve on the line shack before they get to work in the shop? Thanks for the answers... my daughter is heading to Whidbey to join her squadron in a few weeks and was told she will be on the line shack.
Good morning ladies and welcome to a new week. I got an email yesterday from my son. Now that he's out at sea I knew communications would become less so it was quite exciting to hear from him and it made my day knowing he was ok and everything he wrote was positive. Did my heart good!
Waynesmom - even though he's waiting to class up they keep them very busy. I laughed when my son called one day and said he had been vacuuming....ha ha I didn't know he even knew how to use one!
Hot and steamy here in the Midwest...gotta love Missouri humidity NOT!!!
Have a great day ladies!
Thank you joshmom, for the information. Just a lot of new things to learn :-) He has been there for almost three weeks now and doing lots of Barrack Support. Keeping busy and just waiting.
Good Morning My Girlies!!!!
Welcome Wayne's mom!!!!!!
Joshmom.....broke nose....oh NO!!! hope the surgery went well and young'un got lots of ice cream and I know he got tons of TLC!
are y'all burning up where you are? I think the water in the pool might be at the "simmer point". Holy Moley!
Welcome Waynesmom! It's all so very confusing at first but you'll get the hang of things, don't worry. Since your son is on hold he's already gone thru INDOC. The wait time to class up can range from days to months and unfortunately they don't get much notice when they do class up. If your son is lucky he'll find out the day before, sometimes they get a knock on their door just hours before they start class! Once classed up he'll do ATT (about 4 weeks) and AWAT (about 10 days) then he'll move on to his Strand (either I or O). Is your son ATI or ATO? As for a File, well the ladies in the "Sailors in Pensacola" group have done an excellent job of explaining things. Take a look at the discussions in that group (particularly "Arriving in Pensacola") and you'll get a lot of info. And yes they still move thru the phases even when on hold. Please ask any questions...always like helping out. Good luck to your son and don't be a stranger on here!
Connie - thanks for the video....yep the vets got to me too! I admit I watched the video twice just to watch Beau again....Bodacious is Right!
Today is my Friday (YEAH!). Heading to the campground after work today and the weather is looking great! Three days of R&R!!!! I desperately need this. Life has been hectic lately. Youngen tripped down the deck steps and broke his nose and had surgery Tuesday to get it straightened out. Doing great though!
Have a Beautiful Day Everyone!
Questions. I am new, my son is on hold and I am a little confused on how A school goes. I keep reading about ATT, AWAT, Strand and INDOC. What do they mean, what order do they go in, how long are they usually and how do they class up? Can they still more to the next phase (liberty) while on hold? Thank you. I wish there was a File with the information I'm sure it would help. :-)
Happy 4th of July, My Girlies! hope you enjoy this video by BODACIOUS Beau Davidson who was born and raised in my neck of the woods and recently named by The United Jaycees one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Americans" for 2013 joining another young man from here as well....Elvis Presley.
Tissue Alert...the old Vets get me every time!
Welcome back Sherrill! Sounds like you had a great visit and thanks for the pics.....cool car and adorable family....they look so happy together. Thanks for the advice on the GW....I know I can always count on you. Fortunately my son gave me his ships email awhile back and we've already emailed back and forth several times since his ship pulled out. I'm happy to report his sea legs are doing great and he hasn't complained about anything.....yet!
Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. God bless all our military!
Happy Hump Day! I got to see pics on FB of my son's ship pulling out. My tears have turned to excitement. He's been waiting for this for a long time and I'm looking forward to seeing what ports of call he gets to go to and hearing his stories. I have to pinch myself...hard to believe my son is getting to see the world! I'm so proud of him.
Connie - Yeah for Happy Sailors and Happy Mommas!!!!!!!
RobertsonJM - thanks for the chin up! My son has a friend who is leaving for bc in February. He's going in for Nuke and I don't know anything about Nuke school except that it's loooooong but if his mom wants any info about SC I'll hook her up with you.
Sherrill - hope you're having a great time in Norfolk! Get your fix of Sailor hugs!
