Sailorswife - sounds like you're well prepared for whatever lies ahead for you and your husband...just roll with the flow! Perhaps the days you're referring to is him being able to take leave between schools or before reporting to his permanent duty station.  That's usually the first opportunity they get to take leave and a much needed one too!  I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for ya!  Question for you:  Are you in Pensacola with your husband?

Comment by BeachBunny on January 20, 2015 at 4:42pm

My sailor and his buddy met in BC and went to A school together for the same rate...both have a different path....one knew his duty station as he was top of the class and picked his orders 2 weeks before grad, the other was told his as he was working on the checkout list a few days before grad in Pcola...one went to C school direct, the other went home and after 1 year still waiting for C school...one was home for holidays bc on small active squadron they rotated leave, not the other one, had "watch" while others on the big squadron had leave,  one has been on 3 detachments and now 2nd deployment...the other one only 1 detachment.....does that make any sense??...not really, they just go with the flow...

I haven't heard the 10 days either from A school to duty station, not a set rule....sailors that have a vehicle are given days to "drive" to their new duty station or put on a flight to get there by their contracted check-in date.

Sailorswife, btw love your picture....Double check his contract, is he land or sea base? unaccompanied or accompanied? c school on contract?? Has your sailor "classed up" at A school, yet?

Am sure it's tough to not know but it's your new normal. If you're a planner it's going to drive you nuts bc there's no set standard, as joshmom said have to learn "hurry up & wait" or what I also call being "Navy flexible"...

We get it and are here for you...:))

Thank you Josh's mom :) oh I'm definitely not impatient and know waiting is normal and theres going to be a lot of waiting in our life especially since my husband is in this for the long haul. Just wanted to know if it was a possibility of C school not starting right after a school. But your right, things are always changing so we won't know for sure. He was told right after bootcamp that he would have C school though so we'll see. I think the 10 days is something they have a option to take to get settled in moving and such. Thank you for your info :)

Sailorswife - get use to the "hurry up & wait"!  I think many of the sailors do get their orders a few weeks before graduation (mine did anyway) but I have heard of some who have waited several months.  Not all ATO's go to C school and yes he could go out to the fleet first...whatever meets the needs of the Navy.  As for those 10 days off I'm not familiar with that, but if it has anything to do with being married I wouldn't be aware of it....sorry.

BeachBunny - God bless your son and all the sailors for the work they are doing over there!  Have to chuckle about "presents"    GO NAVY!!!!

Good morning ladies :) I do have a question, my husband said he finds out where we will be stationed about 2 weeks before graduation, I know that he can find out as late as day of graduation too though. He has C School but I know that C school can happen at any time of their navy career, is it possible for him to not have to start C school right away? I know that they get 10 days off after a school to get settled in to our new place

Good Morn Ladies...

Welcome Sailorswife......:0

oh, you're funny Fallon calls themself the "oasis of the desert"...not me...lol.....I lived near there on a horse ranch for 2 years...it's the desert alright...the base has no galley, small NEX and subway that is opened limited hours...barracks are nice...

My sailor is still on the sea working on a carrier, prepping for birds to be launch daily... as the captain calls it sending "presents" to ISIS, aka Deask...last week BBC filmed and posted a documentary on what the carrier is doing over there...really interesting to sea all the actions going on....way more planes launching then when we went on the carrier for family day...proud of them all!!

joshmom:  BeachBunny called it an "oasis of the desert" - he goes to Fallon, NV.  He had been working in a shop in Lemoore for 3 months already learning what he is going to C-School for which I think helps.  I think it is more exciting for them to go out and "see the world".  I know being home is nice, but why would you enlist to stay home - LOL.  That is great that you son is re-enlisting!

Comment by MaggieMay on January 9, 2015 at 1:01pm

Thank you Candirad!  He's been in a little over 3 years now. This is going to be an exciting year for him. Lots of changes...his ship will be coming to the US and going through a hull swap.  Then he'll either go back to school or on to a new duty station.  Looking forward to what his future will bring!

Good luck to your son in C-School.  Refresh my memory...will he be staying in Lemoore after school or does he have orders elsewhere?  As much as us moms would love to keep 'em home it's exciting for them to go off and see the world.
