Thought it might be nice for everybody to say where they are staying for PIR as a means of knowing who will be in the same place, taking the shuttles, carpooling, etc. and maybe even getting together…Continue

This is the final test for the recruits before they become sailors.  It is an overnight drill held on a ship replica made by Disney, so it is very realistic....the recruits face every challenge that…Continue

Joan, I'm here with Sandy on the BC being the easy part.  My son is also at Goose Creek in the Nuke program and the only time he gets more than 4 hours of sleep is on the weekends.  He's even willing to sleep through a meal just to get sleep. Days start at 0500 and go all the way through till 2000 at the earliest and then they still have to to watch (if required), laundry (my son was doing laundry at 2:00 in the morning one time as that was the only time he had to do it or go without underwear!!), catch up on internet, and then figure a way to wind down at the end of the long day knowing that in just a very few hours they will be back at it AGAIN.

My son is just ending his 3rd full week of math classes and next week apparently starts another phase!!  Yahoo.  So far he's done quite well but the hardest part is still to come so I encourage him to just take one day at a time and give it all he's got.

Deana, Corpsman - isn't that a medical position where they help the wounded?

Joan - Great to hear from you.  My Sailor is in his second week of A School.  There was a three week hold when he got there to fill his class.  Its very stressful because they have about 16 hours of math each day. (12 for class and 4 for study)  Yuck!!  We try to go visit every other weekend.  He says boot camp was the easy part.  Atleast at bc they were required to get 8 hours of sleep, now they are lucky if they get 2.  Still at GL?  Brrrr!   Here we've had weather in the 70"s.   (50ish today) but still glad we are back to a warmer climate.  PIR cd came yesterday.  Was all sappy watching it again, LOL!  Hope you and your family are well!

Hi all haven't been on in a while, just wanted to stop and check in to make sure that all of you and your sailors are doing fine. My sailor is doing good, he is still in GL for A school. It appears that he may be put on hold for a couple of weeks while he waits for his class to fill so that is that much longer the will be gone away from home. I am so glad he has a cell phone and can call home whenever he gets the chance, but I can't wait to see him again. I continue to wish all of you the best and I want to sincerely thank all of you for your support during boot camp. I can say that I would have never made it through that process if it weren't for all of you, so thanks again!

Hey Deana, I was so excited to learn your daughter found her items that were missing.  I just had to have faith that my belief in those Sailors would ring true and they would be found.  Hope all is going well with your sailor.  Mine just classed up this past Monday, Valentine's Day !!!  18+ hour days have started.. up at 0530 and watch until midnight....UGH.

Good News Deana!
Comment by Deana (Ship 11, Div 053) on February 14, 2011 at 12:02pm

Update on the missing frames and division t-shirts:  My daughter texted and said, "This petty officer came into our classroom n was like is there a 'last name' in here? And he was like messin with me n I thought I was in trouble.  But everything was there and it was good!"

That was on Friday and yes, everything was accounted for and found its was back to my Sailor!  Thanks for the concern, advice and prayers.

BTW, I hadn't even contacted anyone from RDC.  They took care of it all.

Deana - I can't begin to tell you how helpful the officers at Great Lakes were. I asked them for some advice to help me with a couple of problems and instead they put several things into action and solved all the problems for me. They truly went above and beyond - I was completely impressed. I really hope they can help you as well. Master Chief Chris Detjie is another officer there who is on facebook and very helpful.

Deana, that is terrible.  I would hope someone would put your daughter's things in a safe place until you claim them.  My fingers are crossed for you.  :)
