To all the nuke folks...I live about an 1.5 hours from Charleston (Goose Creek), if you want/need info about the area or if I can help you in any way, please let me know.

I talked with my son a couple of times yesterday.  He is moved in and getting settled in his new quarters at GL and also bought a computer at NEX.  He has two roommates and an empty rack for a third.  School was supposed to have started today, but has been cancelled because of the weather.  So he is just hanging around, getting to know his new shipmates and waiting for his phone to arrive!

Karl...I hope you and Erin get a flight as soon as the storm clears.  Stay warm and safe until then and let me know if there is anything I can do from SC.

Cheryl- my son flew out of midway this am. He said they stopped over in Atlanta and some Sailors went to Pensacola and he and others went to San Antonio. I don't what time they left, he called from SA at 4:25pm PST.

bls23ship - Do you know if they flew straight to Pensacola or did they have a stop over somewhere?

Hi all,  we got back last night about 6 pm.  What a weekend of mixed emotions -elation at seeing the graduation and FINALLY getting to actually see and hug my son.  Then came Sunday night!  Wow - was that hard!  I have been sort of moping around all day.  It's hard also because I have no idea what is going on.  Penny - I'm assuming you talked to your son - I haven't heard a peep from mine.  So - the nukes are in South Carolina now?

By the way,  Thursday night was fantastic.  I so enjoyed meeting many of you and I'm sorry I didn't get to meet everyone.

Hey! He just called while I was writing - they are in South Carolina!  Yay!

This has been such a great support group.  It's been great walking this navy journey with you! :)

Just wanted to let everyone know that had a sailor fly out of Midway Airport at 6:17 a.m. a USO volunteer met them and did an exceptional job of giving them guidance of checking in. I talked to him a little bit at the USO, very nice gentlemen, lots of sailors made use of the place and had food and snacks for them plus a nice flat screen tv and also internet for their use. I left a donation because I know they rely on donations to keep things going. So, if anyone would like to help out the USO, I am sure the USO of Illinois wold appreciate any help they get.

Gvnavydad - i feel your torture, so close yet so far away. Sitting up here above the storm line being thankful for nothing more than cold temps and hoping my sailor is doing well, he was supposed to check into A-school at GL today.

BTW...For those of you with sailors at GL: Despite what the Navy Lodge website says; friends and family can stay at the Navy Lodge if you visit your sailors here. Your sailor just needs to make the reservation for you. It is very reasonable $65 with no additional charges except internet if wanted(free in the lobby). 2 queens and a kitchen plus a great staff. They said policies vary at other Navy Lodge's, they told me the Lodge's inside base gates don't allow anyone but military, but if they are outside the gates they usually allow it.

Wow, Cheryl glad you are ok. We are here until Thursday now. They actually scheduled us out tomorrow evening but they also say the roads will likely be impassable until that night, so that didn't work. The Navy Lodge has been great though...so we are just hunkered in watching movies.

So sorry gvnavydad! Wow, I hope you can get out of there, sounds like it might be a while. My 4 wheel drive is in a ditch in Oklahoma. I publish several newspapers so we are out in this blizzard -- it's rough out there. So glad to hear the Pensacola flight got there o.k. -- not like my son not to call. Hopefully his calling card is just empty. We were going to accompany him to the airport to give him his phone but had to head home because of storm coming.
