Thought it might be nice for everybody to say where they are staying for PIR as a means of knowing who will be in the same place, taking the shuttles, carpooling, etc. and maybe even getting together…Continue

This is the final test for the recruits before they become sailors. It is an overnight drill held on a ship replica made by Disney, so it is very realistic....the recruits face every challenge that…Continue

To Lynne, No I do not want to punch your lights out. No news is good news is just what I needed to be reminded of! Thank you!
Hi all, I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one longing for mail. I really thought I'd receive a letter this week but now I'm thinking they were not allowed to write on Sunday and it will probably be next week before I hear from him. It's painful to look in that mailbox expecting and hoping for a letter and not see one. I'm sure you know how I feel. I don't think I would mind him being gone so much if I just knew how he was doing. Lynne, I'm still a little unclear about the Christmas cards. If we are sending a large amount how can we fit them in a 4x6 envelope? It's really NOT okay to send a large manilla envelope? Should I just send them all individually addressed to my son?
Penny, yes my husband has PIR 1/28... He left for Great Lake on 11/22 (Mon before Thanksgiving). I have been volunteering to work every day since just so I don't think about him and cry.
I don't think your recruit will get in trouble for you all sending Christmas cards to the recruits...they can get mail...just don't send anything risque...lol...and don't send them in a 8 X11 manilla envelope but more the card size...4 X 6...that is what we did...
Oh and they do hold the mail...it is not a sorting issue...they definitely hold it Tricia..it is part of the getting use to boot camp and cutting the apron strings philosophy so to speak...
Oh the power of our brains to only hear certain words...okay I know this is tough, but you are almost there ladies...when your recruits called...think hard now...I am pretty sure they said they would call in ABOUT 3 weeks with the operative word being 3 weeks. My son cqlled in 4 weeks, 2 days and yes I could give you hours and mintues too. He was in processing days a long time and his division was formed before he got there because he was in a special division. The time references are usually 6 to 10 days for the kid in a box...then another week for the form letter and then another week for the first letter. My best guess is that many of your sailors will be writing their first letters this coming Sunday and you will get them next week. I suspect that tomorrow may be the first day that many of them will get mail. 900 divisions appear to send mail first because remember that have to get initial things done quicker so they are ready to perform at the last 3 PIRs. Now the down side for them is I often see more 900 recruits cut it closer on passing their PFAs because they have less training time. So hang in there...you are doing okay...and I know I keep saying this and I am sure you would like to punch my lights out...because I hated hearing this when I was in your shoes...but no news is good news...
Aggie, is your husband a PIR 1/28 grad? And when did he fly out to GL? Mine left here the day before Thanksgiving, 11/24.
I have noticed that the 900+ divisions seem to have been writing (and sending) for a while now. Okay, I know I'm having my own pity party here but .... this suspense is NOT good for a mom! lol
Finding a whole lot of discouraged and heavy hearted moms on here tonight because their sons and daughters (including mine) have now been gone for more than two weeks and narry a word other than a few lines on the formal letter. One mom said that her son's note stated that our division wasn't even going to be done with p-days until yesterday (2 weeks in). Can that be possible? If so, it would make sense why there are no letters because there is no letter writing during p-days!
I got 2 letters from my son that has PIR 12-17, but nothing from my son that has PIR 1-28-11..... I miss them so much. I was very happy to here from J today but really wish I had gotten a letter from both of them. Maybe tomorrow????
Hang in there ladies!! Remember it is the holiday season as well and mail is about 2 to 3 days backed up where I am!
