Hi all!  Been so long since I've logged on that I had forgotten my password.  So happy to see there is still some activity in this group...lol...this is where it all began!  My sailor has finished A school in Great Lakes, been home for a glorious two week liberty and just left on Friday to report to his new duty station in Norfolk.  He spent the weekend in temp housing in Newport News and wasn't too thrilled with the location.  Got word this morning that he is being moved today to Portsmouth.  He is assigned to the USS Theodore Rosevelt, which is in dry dock until 2013.  So happy he is somewhat closer to home (said the drive up took about five hours).  He is planning on buying a new vehicle in the next week or two and plans to come home every weekend he can manage!  So...anyone else have a sailor at Norfolk, or on the USS TR?

It feels good to finally have my daughter in her permanent station. She is in San Diego, which was her first choice. We are all excited about that because we have family very nearby. This transition has been a little more difficult for her then the previous ones, but she is beginning to get acclimated and has already been out to sea! She has spent a couple weekends at my parents house, which she loves because they have given her a space all her own. It is great to hear so many successes after such a long haul ( and still is for some). Best wishes to you all!

Hey everyone. Just wanted to se how everyone is doing. My daughter finally got her orders. We thought she was going to Norfolk on the Eisenhower but it seems they don't have any female racks available on the ship. So, now she gets here first choice, San Diego! She graduates A school on June 2 and will come home for her first visit. HooYah! Then she reports to Jacksonville Fl. on June 15 to C school for 26 days. Then on to San Diego. I hate it she will be on the other side of the country. We can't take a weekend and drive to visit anymore. I guess were saving for a vacation to San Deigo next summer! Thanks again to everyone for all the support during boot camp. Take care all!!!

Hey Joan, I believe that Denise's son is also going to be heading to Norfolk as well where he will be stationed.  He is a hull technician in A school right now in Great Lakes.  My son is still in A-school in Goose Creek, SC where he will be graduating on May 13 and get 10 days leave and then return for 6 months of Power School and then 6 months of Prototype School...so we got a long haul yet to go.  Nuke school is long and tiring but the rewards in the end, I hear, are pretty good.  We'll see, huh?  lol

Good to hear from you - stay in touch everyone!

Hi all just checking in to see how everyone is doing. My son has graduated A school in great lakes. He was home on leave for 7 days before going to Norfolk Virginia where he will be stationed for the next 3 years. I was informed that he will be deployed with his cruiser ship on Dec. 12th next year, so I do have time to prepare and hopefully I will get to see him again before that time. It is good to come on and see how our sailors  are doing since our emotional and trying time. I do miss our daily conversations, the love and support that I felt as we all endured the stress of bootcamp was exceptional. I pray that all of you are healthy, happy and safe. I pray that your sailors remain safe and that the adjustment is going well for all of you. I will be checking in every now and then. Until then everyone be blessed!!

Its great to hear from all of you!  But just so you know, I dont like looking at the clock now.  It reminds me of some very sad and desperate times.  Remember the days when we all were waiting for calls after battlestations 21?  All the tears and laughter.  The worry and relief.  You guys are awesome!!!  Thanks for being such a HUGE part of my life during that time.  Appears our Sailors are doing fine and all of us are adjusting well.  Hooyah!!!

We are headed to San Diego on the 15th to take our son his car! It is a 22 hour drive, but I am so excited to see him. I will post a pic of the infamous tatoo LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has been "underway" three times now, faced a fire on board the ship and a man overboard! It has been pretty eventful! They are just going out for manuvers at this time. He would have been on his way to Japan if his ship would not have been loaded. ACTmom...so your son is stationed in San Diego?? My son is there on the USS Peleliu.

Hey Hikermom!!!!! I was so excited to get the DVD and the book! looked at the book forever! I have tried to skye and so far we have issues! I am hoping to get that fixed soon! He calls atleast once a week and texts/facebooks with me! I am so thrilled with the communication. He talks daily with his girlfriend here who keeps me posted. All in all we are adjusting to the Navy parent life lol!

Sandy....Let's hope he keeps the tatoo issue at bay for a while. It was quite a surprise here. He never exppressed that desire while at home and the picture was something else!! They have grown up and it is taking this mom a bit to catch up! When he was home between A school and reporting to his Duty station he made his bed daily and ironed cargo shorts....I was pleasantly surprised! I am so proud of him! Good to talk to you again!

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!!
Sherry

Glad to see the updates here! Wasn't it great getting the DVD and book? My son is at Nuke, too and usually falling asleep as we talk. We finally got to Skyp and it was the best ever. Hi to all, especially nvdad, Penny, Sandy and Sherry!
