@Kellismom, thank you and best of luck to you and your daughter! I was thinking back to my son's PIR and I am so excited for you to finally see and hug your daughter! It really was a grand moment for us. Are you able to go out to see the PIR? Being Marines, you know what its all about. I am still learning all of the time. You will have to let us know where she gets stationed.

Thank you MNnavymom and Happy 2 yrs to your son!

sailorv'swife,

I believe that's correct, I'm new to the Navy ranks/ratings. (actually, her dad and I were in the Marines, so we learned it at one point but that was a long time ago).  Your husband graduated last week, so do they go to ship 5 until school starts?  Is he also a FA ? From what I've read in job descriptions the FA is the 3 week basic school prior to the GSE school.  BTW where is TSC?

Steve'sMom, which aircraft carrier is your son's destroyer attached to?

Comment by Steve'sMom USS Cole on January 19, 2013 at 5:34pm

My son is a GSM, stationed in Virginia. He is in the middle east aboard a destroyer.

@Kellismom my son is a GSE FN. Just had his 2 yr. ann yesterday! He is stationed in Virginia aboard a destroyer. Best of luck with everything! Hang in there, things do get better!

lauren68 - how's your sons's A-school going? My husband said his a-school is 20weeks, and then only some GSE's are chosen to go onto C-school. Has your son mentioned this at all?

Comment by SailorV'sWife on January 19, 2013 at 3:24pm

My husband just graduated last week and is a GSE. He starts classes the 5th at TSC. Correct me if I'm wrong kellismom, but GSE's (engineers) are considered "fireman" so there rate is FR (fireman recruit - E1), FA (fireman apprentice - E2), etc..

Comment by 2sonmom on January 19, 2013 at 2:54pm

Hi kellismom! My son is a GSE3. He's on a ship in the middle east presently. GL is where he went to A school. What does the FA stand for?
