Hi all, I joined this group so that I may get a better understanding of what my son will be doing for a job while he is in the navy. My son is currently in BC and will PIR 1/28/2011, his job will be GSM. I am trying to figure out exactly how GSM correlates to what he did when he was in high school. He was in steam engineering. What I am trying to say is, what is GSM? and what are the duties of a GSM? Is the work a GSM do mostly on land or sea?

My daughter really enjoyed the EN strand schooling there was 7 in her class! she graduated from that last friday and now all her dental and paperwork is in order and is just waiting for date to come home on leave and she also found out saturday the her ship leaves for 2 weeks in december she will be there then and in february 2011 her ship leaves for 7-8 month tour!!! San Diego is nice we lived there for years but it got so expensive thats why we moved to nv. A school at great lakes is ok! Roomies can be a pain! I sent her plenty of food packages which she really appreciated and baked cakes and cupcakes and sent them too!! All got there in one piece lol! Blankets would be a help too as it is now getting really cold. Daughter will be sending home some of her stuff tomorrow that she does not want to bring on the plane with her.

Welcome cheffiona-- my son is an EM and already in SD, on the USS Rentz, he loves it out there. Long way from Green Bay, WI though :( He gets to come home for Christmas, so we are looking forward to making the holidays extra special this year. Good luck to your daughter and her husband.

Hi Cheffiona - my son is scheduled to leave for bc on July 12, 2011. He will then go to A school for EN. Has your daughter said anything about the likes/dislikes of that rate? How was A school? Did she go to C school? Thanks, those were just a couple of questions that we had. Please thank your daughter for me for protecting and serving.

My daughter is an EN pir 8/6/10 and is just about to finish her EN strand and graduate gl 29th october she already has her orders and will be home for leave for 11 days and then off to San Diego USS Comstock, we live in nv now and are originally from San Diego so we know the area well and at least we are only about 4 hours away so can get to see her often and she married during A school 18th Sept and her hubby leaves for boot camp in Feb 2011 until then he is moving to san diego and they will be getting an apartment very close to our old house. Im so glad she got San Diego as we have family there close at hand and we hopefully will get to spend christmas with her and hubby in their new place.
