smeesmom- Thanks. My husband was stationed there in the 80's. I think that is why she chose SD. We were also at Pearl Harbor. He was a sub sailor but her grandpa flew helos in the 50's and 60's. He is very excited for her, too. I'll pass that message onto her. I'm sure she will like to hear that. Not the same as when she graduated boot and several of her shipmates went to Penscola with her. But she is very happy.
My son has been in San Diego for a little over a year "working" on helos, (birds.)
SD's a good place to be. When it gets closer, write to me and maybe Smee can show her around. He's thinking he'll be going out on the Nimitz some time this summer. But like we're learning with the Navy, plans are for changing. :) He was able to come home before he went to CA so I hope your daughter also has that opportunity.
Looks like my daughter will be going to SanDiego after A school. She is excited about working with helos. Hoping she can come home before she heads west.
yes very nice, Kurig coffee post and small kitchenette in the rooms we had. Have a wonderful trip!
Thanks Patti! I actually was able to call and make reservations there myself. He just has to meet us when we arrive to check us in and get passes. I am so excited!!! We were quoted $47 a night. So the rooms are nice? Yay:)
I went to Pensacola for a weekend with my daughter in law and we got rooms at the Navy Gateway on base. The rooms were very nice and I think we paid $49 a night. If you want to stay there your son has to make reservations for you
I did not visit in Pensacola, but I just asked someone who did and she told me that she stayed at the Suburban Extended Stay about a mile from the base. She said it was fine and had a kitchen.
Anyone ever stay near the base in Pensacola? If so, can you recommend a hotel that is not gross, but not too expensive? We are going to drive up in a couple of weeks to see our sailor!
TraceJ, My son is in the exact same time frame and in Pensacola as well. We are trying to plan a trip up there during my husband's vacation time, but everything is up in the air because he may be on his leave by that time. I have read multiple times on this site not to plan and go with the flow. I am a planner, but I'm learning to go with the flow!
Hello all, my son is in Pensacola and just started his core AD classes this week. He said it will be 2 weeks then he will find out what strand he will have and then how long schooling is for that. He hopes to come home but told us that he will not be able to until he is done with all schooling and he doesn't know about C school yet. I am not good with all this never knowing, we would like to take a trip to see him but we have to wait until school is out another 3 weeks and he claims he may be on his way home by then but he really has no idea. Taking some time to get used to this.
