Valtameri, how are you doing?

Good luck to your son.  Waiting for boot camp seems to take forever but eventually you'll get to see him again.  A-school is an easy wait as they get to use the phones and the computers so there's regular communication.  We just got our  PIR video in the mail today.  Mine was grad and go so graduated on 2/11 and was in Pensacola by 2/13.  He graduates A school for AD next week 3/31 and then has orders for NAS San Diego.  There was some down time, some bookwork, and now they're finally doing some hands on stuff on the engines so he's happy.    Hang in there.

Found out that awat is preliminary and required of all airmen before the actual classes start.

He's been in Pcola for almost a week.  Today (2/18) he said his name appeared on the board with  ad awat 2/22.   He's assuming that means they have enough sailors and his class will start on the 22nd.   Does anyone know if that's correct or what it means?

Smeesmom, the info that was given to my sailor in basic regarding how long his A school would be & when he would be graduating A School was really goofy too. So don't let that surprise you.   Tell your sailor to run copies of ALL he his orders!!!!  About a month after he arrived at his 1st duty station, they informed he that they had NO record of his be in Pcola.  And this week they told him that BC never put his medical info in the computer, so he may have to go thru all that stuff again!  So if he is home on leave between school & his 1st duty station it might be worth while to run a  complete copy of his medical records too & keep them not with him but with you in a safe place.   It is SO frustrating!!!

When my son went to Pensacola in 2009 there was a wait for the class to start so he was there about 2 months. It is a short class, intense book learning and only a little hands on at the end.  I thought the class lasted 3 or 4 weeks but mine did have down time for Thanksgiving. Then when they get out to their base they do a lot of hands on work with someone overseeing them until they get all of their qualifications.  I know it takes a few weeks before they get full privledges at A school, maybe he is talking about that.  Anyone else with an idea?  You might try asking the A school in Pensacola group too. They are usually on the first page if you click on groups above.

Question -- My son signed up with recruiter for AD.  He has PIR 2/11/11 and leaves for Pensacola 2/12.  He tells me that he graduates from there 3/1.  Since this is only about a two-week period, I don't understand if this is a class before his A school or what's going on.  Am I missing something?

Dixie, my son was there for the Blue Angels show too.  LOVED it!  He went 2 days.  One day to take pictures & some video.   Then went the 2nd day to actually watch the show.

Valtameri, I can tell you that my son's A school went pretty quickly.  He had PIR from basic on 9-24 & got to Pennsacola on Tuesday after PIR.  He graduated A school on 11-19.  He really enjoyed Pennsacola, loved the weather!

Wow, finally some chatty people in the group!  YAHOO!!  I joined this group a few months ago & there has hardly been a word said!  Nice to see!  My son is stationed in Maryland.  And like wi-mom, he misses the snow SO very much.  We are also from WI.  :)  They get some snow in MD, but so little & it melts so quickly.  He does enjoy watching the locals try to drive or plow it; and their reactions when he tells them about the snow falls we get here.  He just laughs!  Have a great day everyone.
