Hello all- thanks for all your input about Keesler and AG. It sounds like n exciting field for my son to go into. He will love the thought of new barracks and hopefully he won't have to wait long to start in. Proud AG Mama- looking forward to going through this journey together with our sailors. I easnt sure what to expect at all since information is limited.
Love the tip of volunteering for a lot of things to help you move along- will defiantly pass that one along! Sounds like Stennis is where they are at for awhile although I know my son would jump at the chance to go to Japan or some other country for awhile. I will have to deal with that one as we get closer.
Again thanks for all the info ladies- it really is appreciated and looking forward to sharing this journey.

Yes.... Stennis is where my son is heading too.!

When my sailor started A school, their class also had Marine and Air Force for about the first half before they split out.  I have no idea if they still do that or not.  His first duty station was at Stennis and was his ship duty, but also no ship.  It was focused on the oceanography part of the AG's and he drove boats and jet skis -- yup pretty sure he was ok with that.  Not much feedback on the barracks, he only stayed in them as long as he had to and moved in with another sailor not long after he got there.  He was very involved, volunteered for alot of things.  That was remembered down the line, everything is documented.

Usually they do not get to go onto C school until after their first duty station.  Mine also had to give a couple more years.  He did say that some were being allowed to start C school early but I don't know what the criteria was for that or how long it went.

Like Nola, "my" time at Keeslor is limited, he will graduate C school July 18 and move on to his next duty station.  He is headed to Norfolk and will be attached as support staff for one of the NSW teams, just don't know which one yet.  My son has been making the most out of every opportunity presented to him and has done well.  I can tell when I talk to him that he is happy with his choice and is very excited for his next step (even tho he doesn't say it out loud)!

Is there an AG group on facebook?

Hi All,

Glad to hear your son didn't have to wait long to class up.  I was a little concerned about that with there being so few AGs.  I read on face book that there use to be 2,800 AGs and now there are only 650.  I also read that an individual's reputation goes across the country and beyond, which I can believe if there are so few AGs.  That is smaller than my son's high school graduation class. Small can be good,  makes it easier to be a close knit group.

Thanks for the info on the barracks. It is nice to know that they are newer and fresh.

I saw your SR (2boysandamom) is graduating 2 weeks behind mine.  Definitely caught my eye.  That gave me hope that maybe the guys won't have to wait too long to class up.  I also figure our sons will end up in the same class and will know each other soon. There are 2 other AGs graduating boot camp with my son. So that makes 4 at least. Some of the AG graduating classes look awful small in the pictures posted on facebook.  Small enough that the AG guys in A School will get to know each other well.

nolaj - you will have to let me know how Japan goes.  On line it sounds like a lot of AG graduates get sent to Japan. Years and years ago my step mom was stationed in Japan with her husband. She loved it.

AG seems like a great, exciting, unique field to go into. I am excited about the world that is opening up for my son and all of our AG sailors.

Hello all, sad to say I will not have an AG in Biloxi very soon.  They are being packed up to move to Japan. Graduation is Wednesday and they will be here Thursday for a week or so. Then off to her folks where they will drive them to Chicago to fly out at the end of the month.  Wonderful adventure for them.  Fun to hear all the details of your sailors all at different points in the the process.  Once we get to talking here, we all chime in.  ;)

DenverNavyMom- you get to go out again?  Yay! enjoy!

Hello 2boys and AGMama!  My son will be finishing his A school on June 18th.  He only had to wait a week to class up.  He also said to me that all the classes are starting pretty quickly.  So there he might not have to wait to start school to long.  Which is good, because he will just do busy boring work while he is waiting.  My son had to do janitorial things for a week.  He was so over that.  lol.   C school will not start for a while.  If I understand correctly, they will not send you to C school until close to the end of your enlistment (considering if it is a 4 year enlistment) and then if you want to go to C school... you need to give them a couple of more years.  But who knows what will happen in a few years.  My son will not be on a ship. His duty is considered "sea duty" but he has not ship!  lol  So there are some duties that don't require it.  My son loves this new adventure.  It's been a lot of work, but now with the light at the end of the tunnel... He's stoked to be working in such a cool field!

They will like their new barracks.  They are clean and neat and fairly new.  They will be sharing a building with some marines.  Since Keesler is an AFB there are not that many Navy people around.  My hubby and I went to Keesler for a while to visit.  He only had weekends off so we had to fill our days with other adventures.  While we were there he was still in phase one, so he couldn't leave the base, so we had to do things on the base with him.  We did a lot of bowling! lol.  Hubby and I also bought him a bike, so it was easier for him to get around.  (He didn't have his car there)  we are actually driving it out to him next week.  It's a cool field for your Son.  Be proud for him and very excited.

Hello Kellig- thanks for the response. Wondered if I would get any activity at all on this group. So I am curious- since your son has been in awhile has he been on a ship at all or has it been all shore duty? Do they go to C school right after or wait for awhile. Would love to hear about your sons journey and if he is enjoying AG.

Hello Proud AG Mama- would love to share info with you as well as my son will be going right behind yours.

Hey! There is life out there in the AG world!  My son graduates boot camp June 20th and then off to Keesler.  Glad to meet you guys.

Hi 2boys, welcome to the world of AG! Meant to reply sooner but time just gets away.  A school is around 3 months.  Mine had to wait a couple weeks for a class to start once he got there and that was 3 years ago. I'm not sure if there is any waiting right now or not.  I would be happy to answer any questions you have -- you are right, there isn't much info.  It's a small rate to so small support.  But GREAT support!

My son is in bootcamp and is due to PIR July 3rd then head to Keesler AFB for A school for AG. I am finding there is not a lot of info out there on this. Any tips from parents that have kids that have been through this?  How long is A school? Appreciate your help
