Thought I'd post a San Diego landmark/statue that is next right on the waterfront skyline of San Diego. It's right by the USS Midway museum. It's a sailor coming home from WWII and kissing a nurse.
Btw, this was a cold and rainy day (not many of those in SD!) We'd just seen off to P'cola and were driving by this.
mhill....how long has your boy been stationed in Diego, Garcia?
Happy 2012 to you all!! Happy for you and your boy, mhill. San Diego will be a welcome change for your boy come this summer. And he will be so close to home. Slim, I'm so happy for your boy too. I love to read that he is loving his job and serving his country.
My boy was here for 9 days. Was a great Christmas. We do still worry that he was held back for 2 weeks. He has 2 full months of school left. And can not make anymore major mistakes on tests. Believe me, hubby and I are sweatin' bullets for the next 2 months. Guess our son has 2 more weeks of block 2, (simulator stuff) then the last 6 weeks is "radar" stuff. Just hope block 3 (radar portion) goes ok for him. Other than that...he is loving the Navy life and thinking positive.
I will keep you all posted. thanks again for your support. You all keep me sane! lol
Thanks everyone. He has assured us that it isn't a study problem. He is averaging an 84% in class. I guess they ALL are for the most part. There is one student who is in the 90 percentile.
Anyways...he says it was a "dumb mistake" on the simulators. Something about a "truck" on the tarmac? I dunno. Half the lingo/AC jargon he says is over my head anyway. But again, it was a non-written type mistake....it was a simulator deal. I don't really know how one can practice for those though? He is getting help from his AC friends. They all study together (as you all already know) in the AC lounge as it is. But I will definitely remind him to go and zero in on a study buddy who is ahead or has already graduated.
Thanks for the support, girls. I always feel better afterward. ;-)
Thanks, Deanna. When our sailor signed up, there was only the AC opening available. No other choices were available. So I keep thinking that perhaps which such scarce jobs available that the very same thing will happen if he should 'wash out' of the program.
Why is it that you are not worried about BC, but are worried about AC school? Just curious.
Slimsam, Diane, mhill.... My boy called yesterday with heavy news. He found himself in front of the review board for scoring low on one of his tests. This is strike two. He has been "held back" by two weeks from graduating. No longer Feb 14th, but will hopefully graduate (if no more mistakes happen) on March 1st. We are worried for him.
He scored really well on phraseolgy. Got a 100% on "Flight data". A 96% on Ground/Taxi. But a 35 on "Local runways". 3 others failed too, but were allowed to retake the test. Mike couldn't re-take because his score was too low.
Girls, my biggest fear is that if he washes out (obviously his AC career is over) but also I fear he'll end up with a crappy job (which would make him sad) or worse, that he'll choose something dangerous like rescue swimmer or air rescue?
He has been studying his little butt off too. He still gets to come home for Christmas....next Monday he'll be here.
Just scared for my boy's future. Any words of wisdom or advice?
