OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

At first I was excited for the fact she'd be closer to home than she is now or wanted to be. Now, not so sure after reading up more, and wondering if anyone can give me better info? Verbal orders are currently for Lakehurst, good or bad?

I just read somewhere that Whiting is the busiest airport in the world, or maybe the country (but I think it was on a wikipedia page so who knows) but I would think there would be a lot of traffic. I wonder if you have run across my son yet, he just got there a couple of weeks ago. But he did say he was in the Tower recently.

We just had 4 controllers go on to the FAA out of here, as well as a bunch that went to contract towers and DoD jobs. Some of them, Whiting was their first and last duty station. So, we have the traffic and its a great place to get the necessary CTO (sometimes 2 CTOs is possible). Sure, we have things that are only pertinent to Whiting, but its a great jumping off point for the FAA jobs that are out there.

If you know what ship he will be on, that might give you more info. I have not found anything that applies on this group. Good luck. I am going to unfollow this group

Comment by Jacob94mom on June 2, 2015 at 2:55pm: Joined this group a while back- my sailor is an ET when he finishes is third C school at the end of July in P-Cola. He says he will be shipboard air traffic control radar maintainence. So am I in the right group? If not where should I be :) thanks!

Comment by JL (Ship 12 DIV 85) on May 28, 2015 at 10:04pm: If he wants to do civilian AC he's needs to make it to the top of his class so he can pick orders and pick a complex shore facility. Kingsville, Oceana, Whidbey. Tell him no FACSFAC no ship no El Centro, no joint bases, no lakehurst. He needs to put himself in a position to succeed.

Comment by towermom on May 27, 2015 at 1:33pm: BearsMom aka Amber - I think once my sailor found out what he can make compared to what he is making in the Navy, he decided to leave after 5 years. He has found out there are quite a few openings and we keep hearing it on the news they are looking for Air Traffic Controllers. Make sure you sailor gets qualified for all.
