Got home early Sunday from our trip North--went to PIR!!!  What a thrill that was, and what a bummer to have to say good-bye!  Our brand new sailor is still at GL in A school.  He is in Damage Control.  He'll be back in Alabama by August & then who knows where?

Hey friends--First, is everyone OK?  Houses intact?  I hope so--I live about 12 miles from Eclectic, where they are really hurting.  I am hoping for a meet & greet this month somewhere (Clanton?  it's in the middle!) but I wanted to say that we are headed for PIR the 1st weekend in June & I can hardly wait!

Hello Alabama neighbors!  My family & I are counting down the days with my son, who leaves April 11, if not sooner.  We have plans to attend PIR sometime in June (I guess).  I expect that he will be grad & go due to his rating.  It is a very exciting time, but I don't have to tell y'all I'll miss having that young man around!  I will be checking this page to get information about a Meet & Greet, which I would love to attend.  In the meantime, any advice & support for these next few weeks would be appreciated!

Hi Cannonpark!! Congrats to your sailor and CTI school! My sailor was at the DLI in Monterey for 14 months, but has since changed his rate (Navy lingo for job). Since all four branches of the military are in Monterey, and it's a relatively small base (Army), the Navy community there is pretty tight. Will be happy to answer any questions I can about the DLI and being stationed in Monterey if you want to send me a private message.

Hi Everyone.  My son leaves for BC on 3-3-11   He is contracted as CTI and will be in Monterey, CA for his A-school.   Does anyone else here have a son/daughter who is leaving or recently left for BC?  Looking to learn a bit of what to expect the next couple of years...

I am very glad to find this support group. I would love to join the next meeting that you have. This is a new experience and excited but yet have some reservations also.

New Navy Mom from Birmingham. My son left for GL on 1/18/11 through Maxwell AFB in Montgomery. We have received "the box" but not ship#,Div# or address. My son is married so I have to depend on my daughter-in-law to pursue getting something from the recruiter.

Debra, thanks for asking...  Well, she's quite a girly, girl so her decision to join the Navy shocked us all.  It was her decision, and I'll stand behind her all the way, but I KNOW it's really hard on her.  Only child, 1st grandchild, 1st great-grandchld, spoiled rotten.... you get the picture.  This way of life is going to be a change to say the least for her!  She's the type of child that can do anything she wants to do if SHE wants to do it.... so I'm praying she'll be fine.  Thanks for asking!!
