This is for ccNavyMom....When my son was on ship I would send him a pkg every few weeks of things that he would enjoy. I also bought a whole bunch of postcards and wrote a few lines on each one and made the story last for about 12 postcards and then send him one a week that way he got a lot of mail to read and it was like a jigsaw puzzle only using postcards. When it came time for his birthday I sent him a Birthday Paty ina Box. I filled it with fun stuff like balloons, confetti, a fun adult game, some aspirins, a couple of shot glasses, etc. He was really happy when he got it and had a blast with some of his friends.

Janet (Vince's Mom), Maybe we could meet at Jacks in Pinson for lunch one day. My husband and I have lunch there about 3 days a week and McDonald's and Subway the other days. We live pretty close to all of them.

My son got home last night from GL after finishing boot camp and A school there. He'll be here for 2 weeks and then on to Norfolk VA and the USS Iwo Jima. Anyone have a sailor on the Iwo Jima or stationed in Norfolk?

Hi, I'm Freda and I'm so glad I found this group. My son's PIR is this coming Friday. My husband, daughter and myself are flying up to Great Lakes to spend as much time with him over the weekend as he's allowed. He is then going to pre-BUDS. I haven't heard yet but am hoping that he will get a Christmas break to come home before going to BUDS out in Coronado, CA. Thanks for giving me a place to come hang out and learn about how all you other moms handle having your precious kids in the Navy! So proud and yet missing him so much...

Hello, I am new to this group and this site. My son will be going to MEPS this week and I have no idea what to expect! Anyone else in the Wiregrass area?

Karla, you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I can totally relate to your situation as well - the reason we ended up in Chicago was because my husband was a casualty of corporate downsizing in March 2009. He was laid off from a job that he had been very successful in for 10+ years. Things are finally starting to turn around for him very slowly, but it has been a long, stressful (both financially and emotionally) 18 months living in a city where we know no one. As hard as it's been, I feel like we've learned to be kinder and more compassionate people because of all of this - for that I am grateful. I find myself humbled by lots of things I might have taken for granted in the past. I just know that things will get better for y'all. You have to keep believing that there is light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime, we're all here to pray for you and be here for you.

Hello, I'm writing to tell you all thank you for your thoughts, prayers and words of encouragment for First Class Calvin!!! I'm Calvin's cousin and I found and joined this site shortly after my cousin passed away and I had to tell you all that it meant a lot to me to read all the comments posted on 1st Class Calvin. Thank you so much for thinking of his family during this time. It means so much to know how loved he was! May his memory be eternal!

As you all know, this is a very difficult time for our family, but your thoughts and kind words provide some strength in our weakest hour. Please continue to pray for Calvin's mother during this time. I will keep each of you in my prayers and thoughts! May God Bless each of you!

My prayers are with Cody and his shipmates, Ringtone's Mom. I know that this is a very sad time for them - as well as Calvin's family of course.

My son graduated from A School last Friday in Great Lakes. I'm anxiously awaiting his getting orders so he can come home for a couple of weeks to Pinson, Alabama, before venturing to his duty station wherever that may be. Glad to find a group of moms from Alabama. Wish I had found it before so I could have joined you at P.F.Changs in September.
