Sorry ladies for "disappearing"  My husband was out of town for two weeks and got back on Friday, so I took the weekend off.  My son, Ethan, is a BM(Boatswains  Mate) I've not gotten the disk with the video on it of the "send off" but, I've got photos, I'll put them on my page cause I don't see how to do it here, so if we are not friends just ask.

Navygirl-what is your boyfriends name, Ethan has mentioned a few guys, but i'm getting old, I'm happy when I go out and remembered to put pants on.  lol.  I've gotten a few emails from my son, probably about 5 or 6 in total, and a couple things on facebook.

Monica, the weather here in Pineville has been just horrible, I just want it to quit raining, and it is suppose to, but they say it's gonna start back at the end of this week.

As for the Ombudsman request for stories about our sailors, it's hard for me because the best story about my son was when he was in 4th grade and he was hit by a car running to get his school bus, and he pops up and is trying to get on the bus cause he thinks he's gonna get in trouble if he missed school.  lol.  He was perfectly fine, a bump on the head, but everyone  else was having heart attacks, and I swear people should be smart enough to know you can't put phrases like, "hit by a car" and "but, he's fine" in the same sentence.

My son did say that he felt lucky because all the "small" trips they took before deployment, he was worried about getting sea sick, and was happy to learn that was not a problem for him.  I'm hoping the malaira pills aren't kicking his hindend.

By the end of the deployment I promise you everyone will know everyone else! :P  Its a fairly small ship compared to alot of the Navy ships...I know that when my husband and I found out we were expecting again, within literally 4 hours of my husband telling his best friend on the ship, EVERYONE knew and was coming to tell him congrats...even people he didnt even know!

okay thank you!  well i have all the information other than that, so it might just get a little lost once it gets to the ship.

quick question... I am sending out my care package today.  I am not sure if anyone has a boy in the same department but do you know if it is "od01 DECK" or "0D01 DECK"... I was told one, but saw another on Facebook...

Tracy, that sounds like really interesting/challenging work!  I work in Critical Care Nursing Resources - kind of a Jack (Jill?) of all trades. My favorite days are when I am on the PICC Team 'though.

Patricia T, my son Spencer is a GSE - Gas Turbine Engine Electrician.  He just finished school and he says there are only 3 on the ship right now - one is a chief and one is transferring out in July, so "the heat is on" him to step up quick lol.  Thanks for the Wikipedia note - I have been using them a lot since Spencer enlisted :)  Tracy, are you a nurse?  That's what I do!  Monica, my hat is off to your son.  They have to learn a lot of intense material really fast, from what I hear.  Spencer briefly considered it and I just kept my mouth shut.  He mentioned it when he was home on leave and I admitted then that I couldn't believe he even thought of it since neither he nor his brother can handle even listening to me TELL them what I do, let alone consider actually DOING something like it hahaha

Tracy- That's to funny!  Sounds like my son.

whatelks67- I was in Pineville today and the weather was just as nasty as it is here.

PatriciaT- My son is a Hospital Corpsman.  He has been on the Simpson since August.  A lot of them call him Baby Doc.  He's learning  so much but now he thinks he can doctor anything, so when he was home I meant I wasn't going to mention anything hurting, cut, etc.   I'm not ready for him to work on me yet! lol
