right, well i thought we agreed to just email... haha he must have forgotten!  I am so confused, what is ombudsman?  I tried looking it up, and it was all written in a foreign language?

Im glad you got to hear from him!!! I know that facebook on the ship is REALLY slow, and my husband complains about it all the time...he always tells me not to send anything to him on facebook messages, except if its videos of our daughter since the ships email doesnt support video.

Caroline- The Ombudsman really is a lifesaver...she has the best information and helps to keep life normal, even though she is going through all of it with us!  And your a brave women to be married to a military man before the time of email- I dont know how you did it!!!

What's everyone's rates?  My son is a CTT, cryptologic technician.  From Wikipedia: "non-communications signals intelligence (ELINT), Electronic Warfare Support (ES), Electronic Attack (EA), Electronic Protect (EP), Anti-Ship Missile Defense (ASMD), servicing and maintenance of various related electronic countermeasures systems."

Navywife and Navygirl - I'm so glad things have changed since I was a young Navy wife 100 years ago.  It was only a couple of years before he got out so I haven't witnessed the changes over the years.  If we had an ombudsman, I didn't know of them and I got absolutely no contact from the Navy for the entire time he was out (7 month cruises and lots of short ones in those days).  I only met a couple of Navy wives, so it was pretty lonely.  Take advantage of all that it offered to you now, it's great!  I have had several personal notes from the Simpsons ombudsman and have read her emails and attachments and she is a wealth of information.  I was in college at the time and I found that it helped me stay busy and focused.  It also made the time go by and gave me things to talk about in all of the hundreds of letters.  He didn't worry about ME as much either, knowing that I wasn't JUST sitting at home and waiting for him.  My hat is off to you, Navywife, for handling being a Mom alone!

Navywife, thanks so much for your insights.  My son isn't a writer by any means, never was, and just knowing that I shouldn't expect too much from him by way of email helps me keep it all in perspective.  I like your idea of sending short msgs that he can respond to without him having to think up a lot of "chit chat."  Also, love your idea of simply sending "I'm thinking of you" msgs.

yeah, i bet that is hard!  its hard enough just dating a sailor!  i can't find the ombudsman page... i don't really know what it is either haha.  I actually live in Michigan, so that isn't exactly possible :\
