Navygirl- Im still trying to get used to it as well...its werid being a newly wed, and a newly pregnant nd not having my hubsand here. But thats awesome that you are dealing with it so well...and like I said, check out the ombudsmans page on fb if you havent already, and if your in the Jacksonville area, try and come to one of the FRG meetings so you can meet the other wives/gfs/sig others that are going through this as well :D (plus I hear they are planning some really fun stuff to do while the guys are gone!)
wow! thank you for all the advice :] i gotta get used to this deployment deal, but I'm shockingly dealing with it well!
My husband has been on the ship for a little over a year now...this is our first deployment, we have a 13 month old daughter, and found out Christmas day that we are expecting again :D But about the emails- I have found sending a list of questions works the best, or sending an email from either a pet (I send one from our daughter) helps them too. Sometimes its hard for them to find the words to express their feelings in an email, and alot of times they dont like to have to think about who is really on the other end of the email...AND there are only a handful of computers on the ship, with over 200 people...which means that not everyone gets a chance during the day to get to use a computer. If your sailor has the time, (and I know there is a time difference) see if yall can reserve any where from 10 minutes to an hour (depending on others that want to use the computer) and have almost am instant message chat. I have gotten to do that with my husband a few times on previous underways, and I was fortunate enough to be able to do that with him tonight for about an hour, and it really helps to make you feel like your carrying on an actual face to face conversation instead of being a lone email floating through space. Pictures are always good too...My husband requested a picture a day- but I send him at least a picture every other email, and I send him about 20 emails a day. And sometimes the emails they cherish the most are the short simple ones that say "We love you, we miss you, were thinking about you, hope your day is going well"...Then they know your thinking about them, and they dont feel obligated to email you back right then, because chances are they dont have the time. I find myself writing a summary of my day right before I go to bed...one really LONG email that I know my husband just skims over, but at least I like to think he reads it (he picks out the major stuff and responds to that- so keep anything important towards the top or right before the I love you at the very end)...and remember...we are all going through this, and deployments are hard on everyone, but it will go by faster than we can imagine, and the fact that they are staying so busy on the ship means its going twice as fast for them! So ladies (and gents too!) keep yourselves busy!!! And if your on facebook, look up the ombudsman- she is FANTASTIC, and gives out all sorts of things to do to stay busy!!!
its alright guys! I'm sure if I will hear from him. If he could, he would. I have sent a few emails for him to read and cheer him up, in case he isn't doing so well! Hopefully having a girlfriend makes them check their email more! ;]
I heard from my son tonight. He said they are all staying really busy, he's had a full work day and a 4 or 5 out watch every day that I can tell. He talked about the Malaria pills too and said that few of the guys are keeping them down and that they often meet, bending over the same trash can - yuck! I am someone who would rather be in serious pain than be that nauseated and I feel so much for these poor guys, but they are all rising above it and what a way to bond - ewww lol!
navygirl- I'm sorry you haven't heard from him. Maybe he has just been way to busy.
I got about 3 short emails from Josh, but of course i ask for questions than he answers :) but they are all doing good
I got an email last night from my son and he said there wouldn't be any email or anything for a week or so. Have you heard anything or maybe its just my son for some reason?
