Happy Easter ladies!  My son said the 1st Classes woke him - and the others assigned to "crank" - extra early this morning and said they had to go to work.  He showered and skipped the shave and showed up, none too happy, only to find out that the P.O.'s took over their jobs for the whole day so they could get a break.  He said it was his first entire day off in 72 days.  God bless them and for you mommas who raised those men, God Bless YOU!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!

I emailed with my son today, and told him I'd spent all morning making dining reservations at Disney for when we go, and he's like, "Yeah, all the Princess'"  Said he's going in uniform and kissing them all!  lol.  I'm just hoping it all works out and he gets to meet us over there for atleast a few days.

The pictures are great!  I'm so grateful to see them and your son is such a handsome young man, he's getting plenty of exposure lol!

Hi whatelks

I messaged you his name.  I don't say anything out of line on here and I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out that an officer or two on board the ship reads this stuff so it's pretty obvious to them who my son is lol.  However, N4M's has no outside privacy whatsoever so I don't want to post it on here.  Anything said on here can be obtained in a general google search.

My ex-husband was in the Navy when we were first married.  I never understood at the time, why he never called his friends "John", "David", "Rick" etc and he never really explained it.  All of these years later, now I get it lol.

On to Disney - great idea!  It will get him thinking about good stuff to look forward to when he gets back :)

I hope your first box eventually arrives and isn't really lost.  I hate that they can't get the mail to them sooner (and in better shape?) than they do.  3 and 4 weeks is ridiculous, especially since they really know where our ship is (they publish it all of the time - right?)  My son sounded discouraged about not getting his mail.  He's also waiting on stuff he ordered delivered to my house and re-packed by me.  I'm glad I gave up on the home-baked cake idea.  Anything like that would be sure to arrive with green icing :P

I'm sorry your son is feeling down. He's probably not alone, but I'll bet your packages and letters are helping.  I really admire these young men for what they are dealing with.  I hope they have a good liberty port coming up soon but I guess we will all keep doing our part to help cheer them up?

The magazines were a total spur-of-the moment inspiration, by the way.  I thought they'd be a nice diversion and they can pass them around and talk to each other about them.

Hey I think I'm gonna send him some Disney stuff.  We are planning a trip to Disney in Sept/Oct. and are hoping they will be back and he will be able to meet us over there for atleast a weekend.  So..... I should get him in the Disney mood.  lol.  Heck I'm even making our dining reservations including him, I can go down in party size much easier than I can go up, is my thought.

Caroline-what is your sailors last name?  I ask because they all only refer to each other by their last names(like we didn't take the time to pick out wonderful first names for them) The box my son received went out on Mar. 1, so almost 4 weeks to get.  and this is the first to arrive. There is one floating out there that went out just after they left, great, lost mail.  Oh come on mom, the Maxim mag. would have your son really wondering what his mom is like, if she has this dark side he's never known about, lol.  gotta keep 'em guessing.  I think I'm gonna head up to Barnes and Noble and grab some mags for my son, didn't think of those.  Think I'm gonna try for some soccer mags and camping/hiking-this way it's all news to him, I don't think they will be going over the camp conditions on the news feeds.  lol.  Trying to think of things to cheer him up, seems down, I'm hoping it's nothing more than the "I'm a long way from home" blues that some people get when they are in foriegn places and away from their ususal comforts, he must get that from his dad, cause it didn't bother me when I was  out of the US.  I'm hoping his movie will help, it's funny and it was the only one he requested, and the hoops I had to jump through to get it, but if it makes him happy, it was all worth it.

Good news whatelks!!  A man of few words...the strong and silent type?  hahahah  My news is not so good.  I messaged Spencer last night, asking if he got a box because I'd heard there was a mail delivery.  He got nothing :(  I don't understand it - 3 weeks, 3 days...  I hope there's another delivery just around the corner.  Didn't you say that you had sent several boxes though? Is this the first to arrive?

p.s.  I don't think he'll be getting Maxim from me lol.  Sports Illustrated was as I'll go.  I sent him Men's Health (and the annual auto edition from CR and CD) I tried not to dwell on the subject matter in Men's Health lol.  Not your usual Mom to son communication ;)

well I got a one liner today.  "got the box with the movie in it"  oh he needs to learn how to keep his feeling in, lol.  But atleast I know he got a box, he's got atleast 10 pair of new socks, plus his fav movie, and lots of snacks, and if I'm remembering right(but don't hold me to it, cause I'm getting old) but I think a couple games.  and some HBA items!  I'm glad he got mail, I'd hate to think he didn't get something!   I hope he got the hug that I put in there, too.  Try a Maxim(maxum) magizine, i've been told it's a mans euro cosmo(have you seen those, pretty racey!!!)  lol.
