Thanks for confirming whatelks. I bought the "warm delights" cakes after tearing up the grocery isles in 3 stores, looking for something more like a full-sized cake lol. I finally decided that this was what you were talking about. I included a box of candles for him to laugh over. Or he could light them. But he'll probably just laugh at me... Monica, it was worth it to get that magazine just to envision the look on his face when he sees it - so NOT me lol. I'm SO excited to hear that your son got mail today!! I hope this means that Spencer did too but I haven't heard from him yet today. Since I mailed one 3+ weeks ago and another 5 days ago, I wouldn't want to share a ship with that child if he didn't get a box today!!! He's doing fine but I know he's homesick and God only knows what he's got left for socks and underwear :)
whatelks- Thank you,now I know what you are talking about. That was a great idea to send the little cakes. I'm going tomorrow to get some. This box is just going to be filled with stuff from the grocery store and it will probably be his favorite!
Well I'm glad that I didn't buy all the t-shirt stuff before I found that out. lol. The microwave cakes come from the grocery store, baking aisle, usually the top shelf, they are the little Betty Crocker Warm Delights cakes. Just add a little water and microwave, ready to eat....warm.
I am so excited! My son said he got mail today! One box and a letter. He said he has already ate most of the food I sent. They must really need snacks. This box was also the one with all the boxers. He told me he had more boxers now than he knew what to do with.lol
Whatelks-Sorry the dye didn't work out.
Caroline- I was going to send that magazine but didn't for whatever reason. I might send some magazines like that in the next box.
Where do you find the microwave cakes that both of you have sent? I am getting the feeling he is just wanting me to send food and drink mixes.
Well I thought I had a brilliant idea to dye t-shirts so that I could get my son a good amount without breaking the bank. Yeah, NO that isn't going to happen. Buying the white t-shirts no issue, but you need about 1 box dye for each t-shirt, so the cost of dying is already more then buying them outright, plus all the work of dying and the extra work after getting your machine clean. So I head to the store to get t-shirts :)!
My High School English teacher would have had a field day with that post. I had no control over the spacing of his birthday and Easter and it had nothing to do with contact lenses. I MEANT spacing the boxes :P
My first package to Spencer took 2 1/2 weeks. The second hasn't arrived yet and it will be 3 weeks today. I mailed an Easter package out Wednesday and God only knows....I am about to sent a birthday package. His birthday and Easter are really close and I would have spaced them better but I was waiting on his contact lenses. Both have socks/tees/underwear besides fun stuff. I feel bad that he's waiting weeks for such basic stuff! We are supposed to be careful about posting stuff but the Navy is posting detailed accounts of their activities so this cruise does not seem to be such a secret. This makes it even more confusing as to why they aren't getting mail. Whatelks, you have some great ideas! I still forgot the gold powder and jerky and I'm packing some microwave cakes in the birthday box - with a box of candles lol. I was afraid to send chocolate candy for Easter because I figured it would be a melted mess on arrival but I send lots of jelly beans and sour candies and circus peanuts and real peanuts, and chocolate pudding. I also sent some water balloons . . . . . .!! Since I can't send him a "real" birthday present, I am sending a lot of little stuff and this box will include a pile of guy-type magazines. Not X-Rated lol, but he will NOT believe that I send him the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition ;)
wow I feel bad, now I gotta get the box I'm working on together and get it out in the mail. i know it's silly, he hasn't gotten the first two boxes, and I'm worried about sending a third. But atleast I know when they finally get them, my son will know I've not forgotten him. By the by, any new ideas out there for boxes? I've done movies, books, cards, games, socks, jerky, candy, dried fruit, nuts, popcorn, microwave cakes, gold bond powder, toothbrush, etc. Hey I also put in two boxes of the water additives, you know the crystal light water flavors, anyone else did those? and of course personal wipes-for those just in case moments. Think I'm gonna grab toothpaste, some deo. definately dying some t-shirts to send him.
ideas?
So, on average, about how long is it between the time mail leaves us and gets into the hands of our loved ones. My son hasn't received anything yet and I feel bad seeing as how they've been gone several months now.
I talked toy my husband tonight about mail...he said the hit a fuel port yesterday but didnt get mail...said htey havent gotten any in awhile
