I know they aren't special birthday cakes, but you can always try getting the microwave cakes and send it to him. I've sent my son some of these, the chocolate lava and the dark chocolate carmel ones. that way they can have them when they want them, all they do is add water and microwave, no worry of them going bad on the way to them. By the way, has anyone mentioned anything about getting mail yet, i've sent multiple packages and I've not gotten any acknowledgement that they've been received.
Happy St Pat's to you too! And everyone else :)
Great photos! Whatelks, your son is not only getting his picture taken, he's getting close-ups lol! I have found the navy blue tees in Walmart and Target but only in singles at over $5 each. Not to be cheap here but if they are stopping leaks in the ship or sending them out with the bilge, that's too much! I found a couple of sites online for bulk tees and I think I'm going to chance it. They may possibly not pass a formal/picky inspection on dry land but I don't think it's such a problem on deployment. He did indicate to me that he had laundry supplies. I like your idea of dying them, but I'd make a mess of it, I'm sure lol. Back to the birthday, I've found several recipes for baking cakes and canning them for shipping but I'm just afraid to do it. The national canning institute site won't support it and neither will the jar manufacturers. I thought I was on to something for a while there :( I wish it didn't take so darned long to get packages to them!
new photos went up on the Ombudsmans Facebook page on Tuesday and another set today!!! And a friend of mine who's son is also in the Navy but is stationed in Italy(nice assingnment if you can get it!) sent me an email cause he thought it would interest me. It was the 6th Fleet Website Page, my son's photo was the "photo of the day" lol, so YES, I was interested. lol. I can't find navy t-shirts so I think I'm gonna buy white and dye them navy and wash them about a dozen times to make sure they don't bleed before I send them. I don't know what else to do. I can find white, black and gray t-shirts but no navy! I wondered about checking an Army/Navy store......anyone tried that yet??? As far as how they are washing their clothes???? I have no clue, have you thought about those Purell sheets, the ones that go in the washer and dryer so you have detergent and fab. softener???? we use them when we go on vacation at Disney to do our laundry and they work pretty good.
Photos?! Where?! lol The wet wipes are a GREAT idea and I was just looking at the Gold Bond powder and wondering. I will get both. I just bought some Fbreeze and some dryer sheets. I honestly don't know what he's using to wash his clothes with but I thought the dryer sheets were good for the smell lol. I know he's glad he keeps his hair buzzed because I know how I hate dirty hair. I'm off work today and tomorrow and I'm hoping that the contact lenses I ordered for him arrive so I can get his box in the mail. Of course, I don't think he's gotten the last box yet...
who loves the new photos besides me?????
well I don't know how much my son appreciates it cause all the shower gel I sent and even the wet wipes are from Bath and Body Works, the shower gels are the mens scents, the wet wipes are and old scent, Sea Island Cotton, so he'll smell a lot like your clothes straight from the dryer and the fabric softner is still very strong. So hopefully atleast his shipmates will appreciate the "fresh" smell. lol.
lol after reading everything youve written Im wondering if I need to start sending more to my husband!!!! he always tells me hes going to take a shower cus he stinks from sweating, but hasnt mentioned the not being able to shower or anything else...I wonder if maybe he thinks thatll gross me out so he only sends those emails to his mom??? lol
Ok, so the t-shirts are navy blue and not white, right? I've looked at photos of my son during the deployment and he's not wearing white ones, wanted to make sure they were navy and not black. Gonna go look for those! Why can't we buy white and dye them navy, and then wash them about a half dozen times before we send them so we know they wont bleed on anything in the wash??? Idea???? Thoughts??? Yeah my son said to send Gold Bond foot powder in every box, that they are going through it, so I have and I also send some odor eater foot balls for him to keep in his shoes when they aren't on his feet. After hearing how bad things are smelling, I'm wondering if the 5 tubes of shower gel i sent with him are going to be enough. Oh, yeah, just incase I've sent personal wet wipes, you know just incase they have to go without showering for a few days, he can be atleast a little clean.
Thanks for the Fbreeze tip ladies, lol! I think it's pretty obvious that they are throwing clothes out but apparently nobody wants to admit it :) On the customs forms, I write above the first line and below the last and in between every other line, in very small writing. I WAS being very specific but I have another Navy Mom friend who has been doing this a long while and she's generalizing with "snacks", etc and has never had a problem. She also says she buys all of the stuff for the box at the same time, by itself, and then staples the receipt to the customs form and nobody has questioned it. I used to also try to estimate the poundage (they ask!) but the postmaster just rolls his eyes at me and says they only need the total, which he does anyway. Insurance and delivery receipt aren't much use either because USPS won't accept responsibility once it leaves their hands, but I haven't talked myself into stopping that yet. I have sent my son two boxes so far and now I'm feeling bad that y'all are sending so many more!! The boxes are totally stuffed but I was worried about space for him to store stuff. I guess I've been reading too many old posts about that kind of stuff. I also didn't expect him to run out of underwear quite THIS quickly lol! He also has the dark blue teeshirts but said that the ones at Walmart, etc are fine. They still end up being expensive because nobody sells them in multi-packs so far but I'm still looking :)
