Are cell phones allowed aboard the ship? How long will the Lincoln be out? I know we can't say for sure, but will it be several months or shorter?

yes they can have phones on the ship, but will lose signal as soon as they get far enough away from shore. They can use these when getting into port, but it will be high dollars. I am having my sons shut off till he gets close to coming back. I will get him some of the ship to shore cards to use. And yes this is a long deployment. :(
I am getting mine some ship to shore cards also. My son-in-law is currently deployed with the Truman and they run out of cards fast so I am going to order online..
Whew...miss a day on and it is hard to catch up with everyone! (-:

TALKED TO MY SAILOR! 0-: Short (what is new?) but sweet...they are working hard, lots of experiences! Sure good to hear his voice, makes me smile! I about fainted! haha!

Funny about the cam at the Zoo...but wouldn't that be a fun shot to see?

Keep up the neat ideas for sending the goody boxes. I like the spice ideas...good one!

Sue...good to hear from you and all the new ladies also! Welcome!
they are saying at least 8 months.. but the Navy changes things when they need to We never know anything exact.
Where do you purchase ship to shore phone cards? Are they different than regular AT&T prepaid cards?
Thanks!!!
Millie you can go online and purchase them or visit your local NEX I am pretty sure. At leaset that is what my Daughter told me.
what exactly are the ship to shore cards, where do i get them? and my sailor is gone 9 months!
Ship to Shore cards are cards they can use to make phone calls from the ship phones to our phones. Land lines I believe. Not cell phones. Someone correct me if I am wrong on that one. LOL They are about 20.00 but not sure how many minutes they are. They can be purchased at their NEX, on the ship till they are gone and ordered online.

I just ordered AT&T Ship to Shore Prepaid phone cards - I don't like ordering things when I don't know how they will work!

Also, I will have his cell phone put on hold.
