Hi.

My daughter got to Everett WA last night.  I spoke with her earlier and she said she has a two week indoc class before joining the ship.  We are all new to this.  Her dad was career Air Force, but she wanted to join the navy.

She just finished A school and received the Advanced Petty Officer Award.  We are so proud of her but we really don't know what to expect in the coming days.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nanon. Welcome. Congrats on your sailor's award! It is kind of scary when they first get to the ship. It is huge but before long, she'll be very used to it.

You'll learn quickly how things work, or don't work. This group is a great place to be. We are one big family and are happy to have you here!
Hi Nanon. Welcome. I am the mom of a sailor on the Lincoln. I was a parent rep on the ALFA board for awhile.....Abraham Linccoln Family Association. You'll find a link to this group at the ships web site CVN72@navy.mil, under support.

What to expect....Indoc lasts for a couple of weeks.......all the paperwork and instructions.....tours of the ship.....quarter assignments....uniform issue...ect. The ship is due to deploy very soon so it won't be long and she will be at sea. She should be able to call you, have her computer/cell phone at this point and she will be given a secure e-mail address so you can contact her on the ship. My sailor joined the ship in about the same position. He was in Everett for 3weeks and then gone for 9 months.

I live here in the Pacific Northwest...just a couple of hours from Everett. It has been great that he was so close. What a great award!!! Send me a private message if you have more specific questions.

NAVY MOM's ROCK
My nephew just finished his indoc there and was to spend his first night on ship last night! He said the ship was biiiiiggggggg!
Jenny got on the ship yesterday. They shortened her indoc and put her right to work. She says the rack is ok there are about 12 girls in her billet. But, yea she says the ship is big!!! She said she won't be able to skype me while she is underway. I am very disappointed. It would have been a great way for her to stay in contact with her 2 year old daughter and husband. Since she won't be able to use her cell phone, what other ways are there for her to call us.? Do I need to get her some kind of calling card?
I would like to know also! I live in North Carolina and have cried all day because I want to go to Everett and be there when the ship leaves again.
Nanon... Get a ship to shore card. They are the only cards they can use from the ship. PM me if you would like and I can give you some tips also, My daughter is a Lincoln Sailor as well. There are not alot of female Sailors according to FB only about 500 tops so I suspect the females will all know each other by the time this is all over.
Just back from vacation. How do I pm you?
nanon and all,
My son leaves Sat. to make the drive from Chicago to Everett. Have read that it is soon to be deployed. So, I am assuming, which I have learned is never a safe thing to do :) that indoc would be while they are underway if he gets there as it is ready to be deplyed.
Thanks for the info on ALFA!
