Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Just a reminder to all family members posting that you should be careful about what you place on the public domain regarding your Sailors and their deployment. Recently, I conducted Operational Security training and within 45 minutes, I was able to ascertain where the USS San Antonio was inport. No one post gave me that information but when I collected all posts and put them together, I had the full picture. Be aware that there are enemy elements out there who would like to do harm to our service men and women if the opportunity presented itself. As a retired Navy veteran of 28 1/2 years, I can tell you that the most vulnerable (and with that the most dangerous) time for a ship and its crew is when it is inport. Please do your part to protect sensitive information and keep our Sailors and Marines safe while they are away from home.

Or, instead of getting it piecemeal here you can just go to the ships face book page. The Navy even has pictures and videos of the ports and places they have been. I spoke to a Master Chief who is in intelligence and he said that enemy factors know where a ship is headed before it even leaves home port. Real secrets aren't told to 900 sailors and Marines who have access to face book and Email, but it does pay to make it as hard as possible for the enemy to get this or any information.

I don't think I shared anything that wasn't common knowledge (or as Teresa mentioned, wasn't already available on the ship's FB page), but I will definitely be more aware for any future posts.  Thanks!
