Actually, I used SA for San Antonio. Don't worry about being new. We've all been in your shoes and we're here to answer your questions. Where are you located? There could be a Navy Mom group there that meets up or you could start one. I met with my Houston group a few weeks ago. It's nice to "talk Navy" and no one rolls their eyes or has a bored look on their face. lol We all understand and are here for each other.
FRG is the Family Readiness Group.
Email them and have them add you to their contact list.
I just found that SA stands for Seaman Apprentice or E-2 and that is what my son is, at least I know he is E-2 for now.
Helen- What is the FRG and the SA that you contacted. I am sorry to sound lost, but I really do not know anything about the Navy and wouldnt want to do anything wrong or inappropriate if there is a group in charge already to send the pillowcases to the ship.
my son has Star Wars sheets. lol There are some with Cars, Transformers, Sponge Bob, etc. A little piece of home and personalizes their space.
Astrid, I contacted the FRG about the pillowcases for the ship. It is something they want to do. I know there is a group that does it, but I thought it might mean more if the SA moms & spouses do it. It would be for sailors & marines. Can't leave anyone out. I might make a special one for my son anyway. I will keep everyone posted on the "pillowcase project".
I heard about a group that makes pillowcases for the soldiers as they say their beds are the most private place they have and it is really nice to have something different or special for them. I asked Augusto and he said that some sailors have very nice pillowcases and others have changed the complete bed to personalized it.
So I told him I was going to send him a nice color or with designs and others for him to give to whoever he felt was needing some. Of course along with goodies and food. I am glad to hear about the 5 hours, I will send him some too.
He said he really liked Greece and was great to be on land. Right know he has not email me anything about were they are or traveled.
I have been reading past postings and was surprised about the robberies, I hope my son takes good care of his iphone, ipad and computer! Sometimes he is so nice to everybody that I am always nervous that they will take advantage of him.
Thanks for the info Denise and Hello to all the group that is online!
Linda- I really dont know what my son do on the ship, I imagine it must be the basic allover stuff. He was attending college at Gainesville Florida, 2nd to 3rd year, when he told us he was not sure about college and that he wanted to join the NAVY. Our other daughter did her undergraduate years at UF and is now a 1rst year Medical Student in UF. We wanted that Augusto finished undergradate studies but he decided not to. He did a really high score in the ASVAB tests but the only position available at that time in July was Seaman. We knew it was for cleaning and all the worst stuff but he wanted to do it, so he is doing rough stuff. I dont know about cranking, and will have to ask him if he has done this duty.
We wet to Great Lakes for the graduation in October and he got some sniper thing for his uniform. His group 13-023 was mixed (females and males) and the got the Hall of Fame recognition. He was so proud!! He is in great shape as he was the waterpolo goalie of the university waterpolo club and of some other team at Gainesville (Too much playing and too little studying), and he used to swim in a club, so he was one of only 4 recruits from the 1350 graduating that made the top physical swimming level, and the other 3 were seals. I wanted him to do tryouts if there was any Navy team for waterpolo available but I guess everything is on hold because of the deployment.
Helen- I hope they get all their packages soon!
We are praying for all the sailors aboard the San Antonio and they safe return home. We were traveling for the deployment date but we will not miss the homecoming for anything in the world.
Denise, I've never made a wreath in my life so this is a new project for me. I'm going to use a mechanical pencil with no lead sticking out. I also bought glue specifically designed for foam to make sure they don't fall out. If I have time tonight, I might cut the squares out. I'm doing 3x3 squares so that it's fluffy looking. Tanner gets to take it down when he gets back. I have a red front door so it should look pretty cool.
No pressure to finish the wreath now. lol
bahahaha....Denise. I do that all the time.
Welcome Astrid!!
Tanner said that the mail will be distributed on Sunday. Here's hoping!!!
