Wow Linda, that's a "dang" shame. I was shocked to read about the number of thefts on these ships. It's unbelievable there isn't no more respect for each other than that for some of these guys. The Navy should do more to weed such types out because if they will do that they will sell information to the Chinese, will steal Naval supplies etc.

Oh, but here's a tip I figured out. Though we can't send attachments to our sailors we can still send pics by copying and pasteing them into the body of the Email when we write them.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. The Kersarge seems to be on top of their game when it comes to pictures and postings so i've been following their page and Carter Hall as well. I'll go take a look at it. I asked Ombudsman about it and she said it takes longer for San Antonio pictures to post because they have to be sent to Central Command in Norfolk for approval first but the Kersarge is larger and has someone who approves them on ship. Also, I think whoever approves them on Kersarge may be a little more lienient on the approval thing.

She also said uploading pictures on the San Antonio is really slow going because the computers are slow.

When my son was staying at the Navy Lodge with us the few days before deployment someone took his privacy curtains!  Thankfully he was able to take one from a bunk that wasn't being used.  As for his laptop, its silver so I told him to take a permanent ink sharpie and write his name all over the darned thing!  His camera and phone too -- and to lock everything up when he's not using it.  I hear it happens on every ship, its really too bad.

I got a short and sweet email from my son this morning, he didn't mention much about where they were or anything like that.  I "liked" the USS Carter Hall and the USS Kearsarge pages on Facebook.  The Carter Hall gave a nice little description of their time in port in Spain, and the Kearsarge has posted a lot of nice pictures.  I wish the San Antonio would do the same. :-(  At least thru the other ships' postings I get an idea of where they are and what they're all doing.

Also, I read a reply but not the origonal post (I guess it was deleted?) concerning a mother who's sons laptop was stolen on the ship? I had written our son and asked him if he had heard anything. He said that he had and that someone had even stolen the guys curtain which is a privacy curtain like a shower curtain which they can pull across their bunk for privacy. I did a quick google search and apparently our Navy ships are full of pirates! Article after article concerning sailors getting laptops, cameras, P coats, covers, sunglasses etc stolen. I told our son to install Lo-jack on his laptop and to write down the SN# from his laptop and camera onto a piece of paper and keep it in his wallet in case it gets lost.

Hi guys,

I wanted to let you know we got an Email from our son last night. He said they just left Spain! He said they didn't get off the ship because it was only in port a few hours, I suppose for fuel or supplies. He didn't say where they were going next but apparently that's where they were yesterday!

Hi everyone, I have a question, do they have an atm or e-terminal where our son could be using the bank card on ship? or do we need to look into fraud?

Comment by jessica on March 19, 2013 at 3:52pm

Actually that's a great idea.. they claim to be all natural and sugar free. And they work great
