I have a different question.  Everywhere I look it says Great Lakes is an 8 weeks program.  Our recruiter told us that effective January 1, 2012 it was being increased to 13 weeks.  Have any of you heard of this?

your recruiter is giving out false information.  Bootcamp has NOT been extended...it is anywhere from 7-10 weeks depending on how long thier Pdays are

I think she is talking about "A" school which can be different depending on the rank....

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this group my daughters PIR is 02/03/12. Wow 15 days counting down but yet not soon enough!!!  I want to be prepared to help her get situated for A school.  To be honest this will be other then boot camp her first time living away from home. Any advise on getting her ready?

Sincerely Army/NavyMama

what do you mean getting her ready?  She won't be living on her own, she willl have a few 100 of her closest friends living with her and depending on her "A" School anywhere from 1-3 other people sharing her room.  She will be fine!

She'll be fine! You are the one who'll have it tOugher! She will be in close quarters and won't have a lot of privacy, I hear. My sailor is a guy, sO it's a little different, I think. Prepare her by telling her you love her, you're so proud of her and that she's going to do great! Then write to her everyday, even before you get her address! Join the group 'bootcamp Moms' on this NavyforMoms website! Good luck!

Yes,  boot camp is 8 weeks, generally, unless it's a 'push' division, which would be about 7 weeks.  I have not heard anything about extending it.  When you get the form letter from your recruit, it will have all the details that you need to know about bootcamp, where to find out more info, graduation (PIR) date, gate pass codes and a short note from your son or daughter.

Check out the site,   www.bootcamp.navy.mil  for more, hopefully accurate information regarding all things bootcamp.  You can also look on facebook, at the page for U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command.

If you're talking about A-School my fiance's recruiter said his training for OS would take somewhere around 12 weeks. But I've read its always longer, because they have to wait for others to get there before they can start. If you're talking about Boot camp, its generally 8 weeks, although it varies anywhere from 7 to 10, like others have said.

The recruiter has no idea what he is talking about..there is no hand to hand combat.  The recruiter is givnig you all a line...tell the recruiter if he wants the up to date info that he can call the PAO at RTC and talk to her.

Bootcamp is anywhere from 7-10 weeks depending on how many pdays there are while they wait for the rest of the division to forum up, it has nothing to do with hand to hand combat.  Correct no one will know when PIR is until they get to bootcmap and get put into a divsion.

and I am just letting you know that the recruiter has no idea what he is talking about if he is saying there is hand to hand combat training in bootcamp.

My son is finishing up boot camp, his PIR is Feb, 17th, he was in for 9 weeks. He just wrote to me and said he will be in Great Lakes "A" school for 30 weeks, he is going for something to do with electronics. so i guess it depends on their job rank.
