Hey everyone! Husband just arrived at Aschool lastnight/this morning. They told him leaving GL that he was on hold till jan and now he's hearing that he might not even start Aschool for 3 months?!
What's everyone experience with wait time before a school?

Thanks, SandySea!  I guess we'll get the real skinny after she gets there.  I thought there was just one "A" school for AE, but that 4 month time frame confused me a bit! LOL.  I do know that they moved up her date for bootcamp because they were short girls for AE school.  She's probably filling up one of those slots.

LoriJa -- As far as I know there is only one A school for the AE rating. My son spent 5 months in Pensacola for about 11 weeks of schooling. there are 3 different parts of schooling I think, and there can be hold time before getting started and in between the 3 parts as they group students and instructors and classroom space together. That is why it takes longer than you would think and can vary from one sailor to the next. I would bet that 4-6 months in P'Cola is the total amount of time for most sailors in the AE rate counting class time and holds. Hope that helps.

Hi everyone. My daughter is graduating PIR very soon and will be going to AE school in Pensacola . I was under the impression that her school was to be six months, but she said that she is only doing like a 4 month school.  Are there different AE "A" schools?  Which programs take only 4 months vs 6 months? I'm concerned that maybe she didn't get as good an A school as she should have. Can anyone explain how this whole thing works?  Thanks!

Does anyone know how long the schooling actual is?  My son just started the basic electronic class down in Pensacola.  He said that he has to complete this basic class and then he has to take another class.  I guess that is the actual AE class.  Just trying to figure out how long this really takes for each of these classes.

Thanks SandySea.  He is really looking forward to getting out of the snow in Chicago and into the warmth of the Florida coast.  We live in Georgia so we are not too far.  Thanks for the heads up on the other group.  Just joined that one too!

Hello SpecialK! My son is an AE. He has been in 1 year and just started working his job in the shop at the end of December. Read the 7th post below here for details of his schooling experience. The short of it is there was a lot of hold time. We did go to Pensacola to visit him while he was in the last week of his first class. It was an evening class, so there was just a couple of hours to visit on two mornings and then weekend time. He did have to spend time studying for tests while we were there.  It is a beautiful place to visit, but def humid in the summer. The Pensacola A school group on this site is fantastic. It's very active and the moms are wonderful and extremely helpful so take a look at that page too. Congratulations to your son and to you!
