My son leaves Great Lakes on February 18th to go to Pensacola for A school for AE. Does anyone know when it will actually start and what we can expect? We are wanting to visit when we can but have no idea the intensity of the training.
Training Group vs. Division
I just spoke to the Public Affairs Office this morning 12/7/12
Q: Does Training Group mean the same as Division when it comes to adopting a sailor?
A: No, The training groups is like an umbrella, they hold all divisions.
(they are eight Division underneath the umbrella of Training Group 7 )
So when it comes to adopting a sailor, as long as there in the same training group you're allowed to adopt another sailor out. even though they may be in the different division. what they look at is training group not division.
So if anyone is able to adopt my son from the same training group,
Training Group 7 (TG7 )
I would really appreciate it.
these are the 8 Divisions that can adopt
(039, 040, 041. 042, 043, 044, 906 & 907)
PIR 12/28/2012
My plane arrives on Christmas day at 12 noon. I just found out, that I had to pick up my son between 8 AM and 9 AM. Can someone adopt him for me until I get in?
Hopper-Mom
YES it has been wonderful even though he's only been there a few days, it's so nice to get a few texts every night from him, lol.
He found out yesterday that his school is now 5 months or so instead of 9 weeks, however I'm not complaining!! that just means no deployments anytime soon!!! :)
AND I get to fly down to FL from Ohio at some point and get out of the cold!! lol.
He said he's found some charities he wants to volunteer at so that's a good thing.
GSD and Laurie B --- A school is so much easier than boot camp as far as communication goes. Congratulations to both your sailors. It can be tiresome waiting for those classes to begin but once they do start it seems to flow pretty fast. Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi! My son is an AE also; he graduated BC 10/5/12, and has been in a holding pattern in Pensacola; "A" school starts in February according to what he told me. In the meantime, he is really enjoying it there, and will be home for Christmas and New Years. I can't wait to see him, but I'm sure he won't be home much!
Hello, new here, my son just graduated BC Friday (11/16) and is in Pensacola right now, starting his Indoc week. He will be an AE. Now to learn a whole new area, lol. Just got used to BC life now A school life.
Hi AnnieJ! See 3rd post down for more info. My son is an AE which is electrical. AT is electronic. He found out towards the end of boot camp which rate he got. He spent 5 months in Pensacola (counting holds) for around 11 weeks of schooling. Then he was assigned to C school for another 6 weeks (after another 6 week hold) for his specific aircraft. Good luck to your daughter.
My daughter is at boot camp now. Graduates 12/21/12. Joined as an AE, Aviation Electronic, Electrical, and Computer Systems Technicians. When will she know which direction her schooling will take?
Laurie B, is your son in Pensacola now? How is he doing? Hope all is well and PIR was fantastic.
My son has a few more days left on hold, then will be starting C school.
Hi Laurie! Try this link for information on the AV rate. Actually, AE and AT make up the avionics rate. You can't get either guaranteed upon enlistment, but my son wanted AE and he got it at the end of boot camp. His pir was 03/16/12 and has been in P'cola since then. He was supposed to graduate Wed, but is now evacuated to GA because of Isaac. AT school is a bit longer than AE. Be sure to join the Pensacola group as there are a lot of veteran moms with tons of information posted. It is a beautiful place to go to school, especially when the rest of us will be having winter! Good luck to your sailor!
