Life in Bahrain
I have many moms asking me, hows life in Bahrain? So I thought I would put a few things together, post it and update, make corrections as I remember something. Well aside from the very hot sun, nice beaches, museums, malls on and off base, the sand storms , which reak havoc on the weapons some carry :). Here are a few thing that might help.

New Arrivals
1. 2 or 3 weeks of training and classes to learn Bahrain customs, laws and the Navys do's & don't's
2. Not allowed off base til the training is complete.
3. No family housing. Non military persons were removed after 9/11. ("09" spouses allowed back )
4. Lower rank personal(I'll check the rank) must live on base in barricks. Others live off base in rental units.

Duty
1. Shifts are 12 hours long.
2. No uniforms are to be worn off base at any time only civ's (civilian cloths)
3. Unlike the States, there week is Sunday - Thursday weekend is Friday and Saturday.

Misc.
1.They buy cell phones on base at the mall or Nex. They can call you for about 10 cents and send texts for 10 cent per text. (Tho in Bahrain they go by BD'S Bahrain Dollars).
NOTE: They CAN NOT text to some cell phone services. The ones I know are Nextel,Verizon and Sprint.
2. Everything they need can be bought on base at the mall or Nex. Even computers,tv's, music, movies .....everything......
3. Drinking: 18 is the legal drinking age in Bahrain on and off base. This goes for the military personal also with one Navy rule in order to buy/drink liquor or whiskey you must be 21, but at 18 they can consume/purchase beer and wine.

Mail
1. They have a on base post office. Which is closed I belive on Monday's.
2. On packages/letters you send DO NOT write Bahrain, middle east or Manama anywhere on the outside of the mail. This may make it arrive to the town P.O.(Manama) instead of onbase. The military ships its own mail but if it does not arrive to the state side base to be shipped to your sailor than its put on a internatial mail flight and sent to the town P.O. Your sailor will have a p.o. box with a FPO address on base only use the address he/she gives you and your return address. It will look something like this.
*Rank Name*
PSC ??? Box ???
FPO AE 09840-2800

Kathy - told husband about DD ordering DDS to call...thanks for the giggle. He loved the idea. During the day he'd smile & I knew that's what he was thinking about.

Leta-isn't it neat to know our kids brought together so many people?

Donna- love the new nickname for DDS. Will use it (TB) & DDS (darling' dumbs__t son) interchangeably if that's OK?! Chewtoy is another option, but one must visualize him being "chewed out", as well as, chewed upon.

Speaking of underhanded, etc., husband gave minimal info on yesterday's final sale of "ms. Roxanne"... is holding info so DSS (dumb sh__ son) will call home! Good god we are nothing but needy! Sneaky, but needy.

I posted some new pics of DDS on my page. They are from the back, I think from a fellow student, but a pic is a pic! Check 'em out!

TO THE GIRLS

What's so poignant about this picture?
Well, it shows a line of little girls holding hands facing the
immensity of ocean waves.
Alone they might be washed away, but together they stand strong.
Thank you each for holding my hand somewhere along the way when I was
facing a wave of my own.
I hope you will reach for my hand when your own wave threatens.

All of us girls..
Old and  young...
Near and far...
Hold special memories of good times we've shared.
We've had our share of hard times when our friends were there to make
us feel better.
We've shared...
Our hearts
Our time
Our secrets
Our fears
Our hopes
And our dreams.
Let us never break the chain of friends!

If you get this twice or more, you are lucky to have more than one girlfriend.

Someone will always be prettier.

Someone will always be smarter.

Their house will be bigger.

They will drive a better car.

Their children will do better in school.

And their husband will fix more things around the house.

So let it go,
Be Happy!
The prettiest woman in the world can have trouble in her heart.
And the richest woman you know, she's got the car, the house, the
clothes....might be lonely.
And the Word says 'If I have not Love, I have nothing.'

So, again, love you.
Love who you are.
Look in the mirror in the morning and smile and say

'I am too blessed to be stressed too anointed to be disappointed!'
I like  that!
'Winners make things happen.
Losers let things  happen'
Be Blessed ladies and pass this on to encourage another woman.
'To the world you might be one person,
But to one person you just might be the world.'

Got this in an email & thought to share it with you all;

HERE'S TO YOU MY N4M FRIENDS

The sale of "Ms. Roxanne" (red ninja 600) - first sale fell through. Trying again tomorrow! Alex says he'll hold the $$ hostage till we get a phone call.
Muhh hahahahahahahahaha! So love his style!!!!!!!
No hits on the "Green Goblin"(Ninja 500), yet.
The garage looks almost reasonable with them out.

Outrageous! Wow Suzanne! How wonderful. Enjoy your guy's layover!
Comment by Miss Suzanne on March 28, 2012 at 7:36pm

Guess what?  My son just graduated C school, and was on his way to Bahrain when he found out that he had a SIX DAY layover... so he decided that he would just come home for 6 - actually 5 days instead!  God is so good to us!  :D

Comment by chriscwick on March 28, 2012 at 3:49pm
Donna- NOTHING of note, not a single call. Am grinding teeth as I type! He has texted monosyllabic responses to his Dad about his bikes, but that's it. Wonder if he got his gear or he's training in his tidy whiteies! So mad I wish he was!! LOL!

I'm rationalizing that he's just focused on the job at hand. He probably feels pressure to do his utmost to pay back the kennel crew for their expenditure & confidence in sending him to "C" school. Santoucci FB'd him saying that he & Cherry will be at Lackland for competitions in April & if Chris didn't show up to cheer them on, Cherry would, "hate him FOREVER". Are Steve & Leo going?!
