Amazonannie, My son mentioned something about that and if there is anything of a hazard pay it would an increase of $50. I wish all of sailors the best of luck out there and may the Lord always watch over them.
Do sailors usually get their leave request approved? I heard that sometimes, their request will be denied.
KC's mom, that's so sad. It's times like this though that I'm so thankful for technology. Years ago with snail mail, loved ones were lost and sometimes the military didn't find out for weeks or months. I'm sure your son appreciated your efforts in making this possible. That must have been really hard for you and your son.
aw, these sailors sacrifice so much. My son's dog, who he had for 10 years growing up, was dying. Before we took him to be euthanized I FaceTimed with him so he could see him one last time. It was heartbreaking.
Good info and advice. My son chose to take his leave when his grandfather was in hospice rather than try to get off for his funeral.
Odi- My son's grandfather passed away in November. I looked into the emergency leave situation, and it is only granted for "immediate family" defined as: parent, sibling, spouse, child. A grandparent is only considered part of this list if the grandparent raised the sailor.
My son was not able to come home, as he did already had leave time scheduled for 2 weeks later. It was hard on him not to be at the funeral, but we had a private graveside service when he did come home.
If I had to make this decision, I would tell my son and I would set up a time to let them Skype. Even if his grandparent is not able to speak, it will give your sailor a chance to say his goodbyes.
Best of luck and many hugs sent your way, Odi.
That is a hard call I do. I suggest you keep him up to date. Sailors nana wen on hospice and passed away Dec 1, I kept him up to date. He said he will probably not come home. It is very expensive for them to do so. It is a 27 hour plane ride for them also.
