My boyfriend of 7 years left June 6th for Great Lakes. It has been an interesting experience with him being away at boot camp. The first few days were rough but I promise it does get better. I write to him every night and it makes it feel like I am actually telling him about my days and conversing with him. I work two jobs so that keeps me pretty busy. After you get letters for him things will start to pick up quickly. Frank wrote me 4 letters and I got a phone call on June 28th. We didn't hear from him for 2 weeks and his parents just got two letters on Monday the 16th. It was a long two weeks but I know how busy they all are. Just keep your head up which is sometimes easier said than done but I promise it will get better. Join as many groups as possible on here for support and also check out Facebook if you have an account. Hang in there!
For some reason I can't post the link right now...but you can type in NavyDEP.com or search What happens at boot camp Day per Day? and you should get that site. It tells you all you want to know up to week 6, It has been fun to follow along and sometimes we know more than they do about what is next.
On Facebook you can search U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command. I am at work so I can't give you the site but if no one posts the link, I can help you later if you can't find it.
Your are more than welcome. I am happy to help!
Writing letters definitely does help a lot!!! My boyfriend left for boot camp on 7/2 and I got his address the following Saturday, and started sending all my letters right away! He has been gone for two and a half weeks and I still can't get used to him being gone, but it does get a little easier as time goes by. I was a complete mess the whole first week he was gone but I have tried staying busy with school/work/friends and really anything that just keeps you busy. I started taking an online class the week before he left but this is my last week, so I don't know what I am going to do once it is done! I go over and hang out with my SR's mom and sister as much as I can and that helps with him being away, for me it feels like I am getting closer to him by spending quality time with his family. We just booked our flights/hotel/rental car yesterday, so exciting! It will get easier, keep writing those letters and send them as soon as you can, they will really like them once they can receive them!
M&M,
I made my boyfriend a no sew blanket for this past Christmas with a Navy print, he LOVED it!!
I got my first letters yesterday and a 30 minute phone call!! I was so happy to hear from him!! What did your SR say in his letters?
