HI everyone! I just had a few questions about boot camp/ PIR I thought I would ask in here. My boyfriend left on the 24th of this month to put things in to perspective.

1. How soon will the recruiter know his graduation date? Is Tuesday a good date to give him a call?

2. Does anyone have any hotel recommendations, or know if you can receive a military discount to any of the ones in the Waukegan area?

3. About how many days will it take for his box/first letter to arrive?

Thank you to anyone who can answer these questions.I'm hoping time will start moving faster when we know his graduation date and can start writing letters to each other (:

Hope all of you ladies have a nice day!

Hello Sailorgirlfriend-  Welcome!  This may sound harsh but it is the way of the Navy.  I want you to have accurate information as well.

DO NOT CALL the recruiter.  He will mail the box and form letter to the address of his choice (Usually a parent) and the letter will contain the CORRECT address.  You will need to get the address from whom ever that is.  He may not have a family member that he wants to send this stuff to in which case it may come to you.  Please read the files on here to get a better handle on what the first few weeks may look like and what to expect.
Since you are not married you would not be considered for a military discount (Usually only active duty and their dependents{Spouse and children, in VERY rare cases parents or siblings}) You can ask though.
The box should arrive either the end of this week or early next (Due to the holiday) He will have to pass his PRT (Physical Readiness Test)on the first try otherwise he will be given a week or so to get in shape and try again.  Once that happens he will be assigned to a Division and be given a PIR date.  That is when he will fill out the form letter which will include his address.  Again DO NOT CALL THE RECRUITERS!!! The info they have is often changed and they do not know about the changes also due to PERSEC and OPSEC - they should not give that information out over the phone and not to someone not listed as next of Kin. There is more on that in the files as well.
I know it seems like it's forever but if 9 weeks is unbearable just keep in mind deployments are 6-9months with even less communication at times!  The life of a Navy Wife is a tough one (I was both a Navy Wife and now a Navy Mom).. It takes a special woman to choose to silently serve.  Learn all you can and hang tough.  Welcome to the Navy Roller Coaster!!

A few corrections and additions to the above.

The box typically arrives in 3 to 4 business days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC, but can take longer.

If the recruit fails the initial run test of the PFA (it's not the PRT in BC, that is for the fleet), which takes place on or about the fifth business day after arrival, then he will retest in 48 hours, not a week, and has no training or opportunity to get in shape since he should have arrived at the RTC ready to train. See Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training ....

The Form Letter arrives around 10 to 14 business days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC.

Once you know the PIR date, then you can make reservations for PIR weekend and there are several recommendations on this site or I or someone else can give you some ideas if you ask once you or his parents have the The Form Letter and you know the PIR date.

The first "real" letter usually arrives in the third week after arrival now, it cannot arrive any sooner than the middle to the end of the week after the second Sunday after arrival since that is the earliest that the recruit will have holiday routine and be able to write. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

Again, DO NOT CALL THE RECRUITER!

Thank You for the corrections lemonelephant.  I knew PRT was not correct but couldn't for the life of me recall the correct name.  I have heard conflicting things about recruits who fail. Nice to hear it from someone I know KNOWS.

You are very welcome and thank you for sticking around and helping out. It means a lot.

I as such a mess back then and you were so kind and helpful.  The least I can do is try and point folks in the right direction!!

:o)

Belovedbyhim, is 100% correct. Beloved, best explanation I have seen.

Hello Sailorgirlfriend,  What ever you do, DO NOT call the recruiter.  They really do not know.  The box with his belongings will arrive first.  Then you will get the form letter.  That will have all the information that you need.  Usually it takes 1-2 weeks to get the form letter.  It really depends on how far you are from Great Lakes.

If you will be flying to Great Lakes, Southwest is the airline to choose.  If you have to change flights for some reason, you only have to pay any difference in fare, no extra fees.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan on Lakehurst Drive.  They had a shuttle to PIR and a very helpful staff.  It was also close to Sarge's Meet and Greet which I also recommend attending.  He has a lot of helpful information as well.

Just remember there are no stupid questions.  We are here to help.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped point me in the right direction (: You ladies never fail to amaze me with how much you care for everyone in this community!! Thank you so very much for brightening my day!!
