My son is supposed to leave for boot camp October 4th and then go to the Nuc program. He hurt his ankle last week and now we are not sure what is going to happen. Has anyone had any experience with an injury right before boot camp? We are most concerned about his Nuc school slot...he has been waiting since December and he is devastated that he will lose it. We don't know if he can be pushed back a few weeks or if he has to get back in the queue. If anyone has any words of wisdom, we would appreciate it.
Thanks!

I agree MidwestMom, two weeks before my son left for BC he stabbed his wrist trying to open a package for me. We put steri-strips (sp?) on it and he kind of ducked his recruiter for a week so she wouldn't see the injury. Luckily it healed before he left.
debg, I hope your son heals quickly and I hope he doesn't lose his spot!
The first few days are processing days and they'll be hurry up and wait days, but that being said, if he arrives hobbling, he may be returned. My son thought he'd broken a bone in his foot and it was swollen, but the swelling went down before he left and he could walk fine by the time the day came. Keep praying and tell him to keep it iced and stay off it. Hopefully the MRI comes back clear of any lasting injuries.
Your son will need a waiver now to join the Navy...so odds are the recruiter will drop him and have to redo everything. With out the waiver, your son can't join due to the issue.
Your son needs to talk to his recruiter ASAP.
Hi:
MidwestMom made me feel better! My son told me in a letter this week he has an ankle issue ( not my letter his grand mothers) I'm glad to know it seems to be something that happens often. HOPE your son is well! Oct 4th is coming fast. My son is out Oct 7th. Good luck to all
