The weeks are flying by and soon Chas will be off to BC.  I read somewhere about outside bank accounts and having the "correct paperwork" when they leave.  Unfortunately, they didn't say what the "correct paperwork" was....does anyone know?

We leave in the St. Louis area...The boys (son and his buddy)  are a part of the "Cardinal Company"....They will leave the house on the 6th to go to St. Louis, prepare for the Cardinals game and give their final oath in the pregame.  My question is....will I not get a "kid in a box"?  How is or what is the difference from this way to the other.  I do know he will start being "paid" on the 6th as if he was really at boot camp.

Anyone else gone through something like this?  I'm pretty excited about seeing them at Soldier's Memorial, BBQ, and then going to the game and seeing the whole group in their dress whites swearing in....of course VERY heartbroken...this is my last child at home and just not ready to let go of that apron string I guess.

Any information will be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,

Tracy

i encouraged my son to open a Navy Federal Account, when my hubby and I were active duty that is the bank we used and it was much easier having your bank on every duty station!   But, if you want him to keep his bank account from home, i think all you need is the account number and the routing number, maybe a phone and address (off the checks) for extra.

They just did that final oath at the whitesox game a few weeks ago, there are pix somewhere on the RTC website, they all had a special shirt on, don't think they where actual uniforms.  then the go to boot camp, and i am sure they have to mail home their shoes, shorts, stuff like that, so i am sure you will get a box also.

a bunch of moms just had their recruits do that at the white sox game, so they should pipe in......

You will get the kid in the box mailed to you from bootcamp, takes 7-14 days to get that box.

There really isn't anything different about being the "Cardinal Company"  That just means that is where they where sworn in, St. Louis makes a big deal of it, there is nothing different in bootcamp.

Yes he starts getting paid on the 6th, but odds are he won't see a pay check until maybe the month afterwards.

Regarding what to take for the bank...deposit slip which has the account number of routing slip on it.  If he doesn't take that informaiton, no worries he will open a bank account while in bootcamp. Which is better anyways as it will be with Navy Federal...which he can find through out the different Navy bases.

I'm sorry Angie...I have a correction as far as the Deposit slip for the routing number for your personal bank if they really wish to stay wth it. A mom brought it to my attention recently as her son had to call home and I had seen it before from a few others having to call home for banking info. Here is my post on that:

If I remember corrrectly. I think the lady at the bank filled out a form for my son to take with him. Since our bank is right across the street from the Recruiters she was very familiar with setting up accounts for the military!

Your post prompted me to look at my Deposit slips in my checkbook and the routing numbers are different from the routing numbers on the checks! (I never use those for deposits...so had not noticed). In tiny, tiny writing...just above those numbers it says:" DO NOT USE DEPOSIT TICKET ROUTING # FOR AUTOMATIC PAYMENTS. USE VOIDED CHECK"

Who knew?!!

The form needed is Form 1199A.  One source for the form is https://www.navyfederal.org/pdf/publications/Treasury_1199a.pdf

The DEP Guide at http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/noru/html/downl… indicates the following on page 17:

"PAYDAY AT RTC

Everyone in the Navy is paid twice a month by direct deposit to the financial institution of

their choice. In order for this to occur, you will need to take an already completed Direct-

Deposit Sign-up Form, Standard Form 1199A to RTC. Most banks have copies of these

forms. The financial institution will need to fill in section 3 of the 1199A prior to your departure

for RTC. Ensure you take your checkbook and ATM card for your account to RTC."

Cool beans lemon!

This info is in the START GUIDE at http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/Graphic-Elements/PDFs/start_guide.pdf on page 39:

"Direct Deposit System (DDS)

All members of the Navy are required to participate in DDS and be briefed on the contents of SECNAVINST 7200.17.  You must understand that failure to perform the duty of establishing and maintaining a DDS account, in the absence of a specific exemption, may subject you to administrative and/or disciplinary action under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. You are highly encouraged to open an account with a local financial institution prior to departing for RTC. All financial institutions have the Standard Form 1199A Direct Deposit Sign-up Form and will assist you in completing the form properly. This form is to accompany you to RTC. If you do not have a bank account prior to shipping to RTC you will have the opportunity to open an account at various financial institutions once you arrive."

Thank you Ladies....I really appreciate the information and article (purplegiraffe69)

hey Chas' Mom, you need to get on the MO moms page.  they have the info there you could use.  Also we have a meet and greet and we have one coming up.  that way, us mom's, are in the same boat too.  my son graduated from BC 6/1/12 and he is my youngest too so i understand where you are coming from.

I didn't realize there was MO group.  I will sign up...for sure.  Thank you!!!

Chas'Mom, before my daughter left she went to the bank and got a form that had her checking account and routing number on it so they could set up a direct deposit for her paychecks.  Once she got there she also opened up an account with the Navy Bank for an extra savings account.  Hopefully, she is saving all kinds of money.

What a smart girl!!!  Great idea too
