Boot Camp Bibles.....

Just wondering if anyone knows if their SR ever used their Bible while at boot camp? I plan on sending one with my son even though  he says he doesn't know why he needs it..... I told him there will be a time and a place and he will be glad he had it !!    I'm going to have members from our church write their favorite verses or verses of encouragement in it so he can look them up.   I'm thinking of just getting a New Testament for now to save space unless I can find a really compact one.

My wonderful Mother in law bought my son a "Sailor's Bible", she went through and highlighted some chapters for him to read to help him through! I havent heard yet if he is reading it or not, but i am hoping so! The first time he called and was so homesick and miserable I told him to go to his bible and read it!

barnes and nobles have navy pocket bible . my son didnt use it but on back pages i wrote a few friends and family members addresses and put stamps and rubber bands around

 the book he got to keep them they help keep his letters neat also have him write an ok note ahead of time to throw in his box so when you get it youll feel better .    we never even got phone call he got there ok someone in group acted up and all paid the price so when i got box and small note saying ok i felt better lol .  later my said he would never had time to write one so was glad it waS IN HIS POCKET TO THROW IN BOX .time will go slow them boom fast book the springhill suites it was the best i can hardly believe 3 years have come and gone hope this help i remeber using this website everyday now its been a year .....hope ihelped u a bit and get warm warm clothes its cold in chicago

Yes send them with a BIBLE make sure not to big my daughters was NOT pocket size and she was allowed to keep it.  She also didn't know what use she would get out of it but she is attending chapel on sundays and we are sending our Pastor's sermons to her to read and research as well

There arent many things you can bring from home and keep -- a Bible is one of them. An SR may not appreciate how much that matters while they are still at home, but they will. Having something their family gave them , filled with warm sentiments from family and friends AND the comfort of scripture may mean a lot more to someone who hasn't been around family and friends for a couple weeks! Even if they don't open it, knowing it's there can provide comfort. And there is room for a Bible. My son had a Patriots Bible -- slightly larger than the Sailors Bible, and he had room for it. The ones they give at MEPS and bootcamp won't have the personalization you can put in it before they leave. Don't overlook the blessing that may be those first weeks of bootcamp in particular.

FYI, they have 13 different services that meet every Sunday morning. Some are Christian and some are not. My son arrived on a Thursday and was able to go to church for the first time on the third Sunday (about 2 weeks later). He tried three different Christian services -- gospel Christian, contemporary Christian and Protestant Christian. I know they have Catholic mass also. There is a Family guide that lists the different services, and if you Google "Navy bootcamp family guide" you should be able to find it. Great info!
