purplegiraffe - I did not know of anyone that got a break between boot camp and A school. My son is staying at GL for his A school now and everyone else either stayed there or flew out.

Hello.  My son graduated on 5/25/12 and stayed at GL for A school.  He got liberty around 4pm on the 25th and then liberty from Saturday until Monday.  Monday only because it was Memorial day.  All of the Sailors that graduated with him that were going to other schools left early Saturday morning for the airport.  Families can meet their Sailors at the airport and spend time with them until the time of their flight.  You can give them their cell phones when they leave, so at least you will have that contact with them once again.  Not sure once they get to their A schools if they will get time off or not.  We live in IL so we are lucky to see our Sailor almost every weekend unless he has watch which is every four days.  They have to stay within 300 miles of base, so he has even been able to come home.  I know my Sailor will get either a 14 or 21 day leave, but not until A school is done.  They also have different phases of A school (at least at GL).  Phase 1 is curfew of 10pm and when out and about on liberty they wear their black slacks and khaki top.  They also have to have two liberty buddies sign them in and out.  Phase 2 has a curfew of midnight and when on liberty the can now wear "civies"  and  not sure about how many to sign in and out.  We were told two, but only needed one last time, so not 100% clear on that rule.  We are only in phase 2 right now, but have heard that in phase 3 they can have overnight liberty.  Don't quote me because we're not there yet.   If your Sailor is off to school in another state you will get to take your Sailor right after graduation and have until they need to report back that night.  If your Sailor stays at GL, be prepared to wait.  They have about half an hour after graduation and then they have to walk back to their barracks and catch a bus to A school and go through the processing procedure over there.  This can take anywhere from 2 1/2 to 4 hours.  They will have to be back that night by 9 or 10pm, but they should get liberty for the weekend and just have to be checked back in each night.  I would definetly recommend getting the pass for your car so you can drive your sailor on base.  Otherwise, be prepared to do a lot of walking back and forth and keep that in mind for checking your sailor in and out.  My son has about a twenty minute walk to the front gate.  I'm so happy for all of you mom's that will have Sailor's soon!  Congrats to all of you!  If I can answer any other questions, just ask.  I'm still new, but it's all still very fresh in my mind.

Thank you Cheryl for the information about the parking pass! That is new information for me. :)

14 more days until PIR and getting to see my son!!

There is no break between bootcamp and "A" School.  If their school is out of state, they normally fly out the day after PIR to their "A" school.  They normally get leave after all training, but not before that.

Only time of the year they do allow leave after bootcamp is for the one bootcamp division that PIR right at Christmas
