Hello..not sure of this right place but here I go :)..when son gets his iPhone back after PIR I was wondering what rules are on pics and texts..

such as should i load up his phone now of pics of our dog cats family etc so he has it to look at later?..

can i send him pics when he says ok..as i would wait for initial contact knowing it wasnt his busy time.

for text I realize theyll be times he cant and again ill have to wait for him to initiate it so i dont interrupt anything..

but im wondering do they monitor what you text about? ..such as i have emoticons on my iPhone..and he has same phone..so could i use the smiley face etc

i dont know if sending pics etc would make him miss animals and us more or would give him comfort ..i guess ill test his mood as the days come on..

so it boils down to would love to send pics and texts within reason of time but what i send within reason is ok or scrutinized/limited??

thank you

My son never said anything about his phone messages being watched. Their phone is their property and unless given reason to look I see no reason why anything you sent would be a problem. My son loved getting his phone back after PIR and having access to pictures from home. I guess I could see it making them homesick, but I also believe it helps keep them connected.

Otherwise, send those messages.......your son will appreciate it all!

If you're not sending anything illegal, you will be ok.  Don't overthink it.  I'm sure whatever picture you send will be fine.

We sent pics of his brothers, and our dog. They are homesick regardless of what you say or send them. I sent pics to keep him feeling part of the family.

i text a lot.  if she is busy, her phone is off or not with her and she will get the msg when she is off duty.  Even after 2 months in A school she still loves getting pics of family and animals!

When we see our son at PIR at Boot camp, can we give him his phone back then, or when he gets to A school are they able to leave the base to go to town to buy a new phone and service?  I have heard that we will only have the one afternoon after graduation to spend with him and he is not allowed to take anything back on base with him.  How and when can we get more of his belongings to him for A school?

where is your son going for A school? If he flies out saturday then you can give him his phone at the airport. If he is staying at Great Lakes you have to wait until he moves over from the boot camp side before he can have his phone.

Here is a great discusstion regarding meeting your SR at the airport when they leave for A-school:

Thanks for all the replies so far..my son will stay in GL for school. ..so i hope before i leave i can give him phone although i NOW know its not till he moves from bc to school so i might end up mailing it if weve left town by then!!
