I read that the recruits are asked if anyone has an interest in singing at some point. If that is the case they might be pulled to try out for chorus. Does this mean special perks, more work or both? Would love to hear if your sailors who made it through boot camp, or are in boot camp and sending letters home about it are enjoying it or not.
Thanks all!

Ahhh! I believe she wants to "just" (Just?!!??) do boot camp but perhaps if she replies affirmatively to some of their questions she will find herself doing extra stuff anyway.
My son played in the band during boot camp. It is quite an honor. They do have to do a bit more work because they have to do the regular boot camp activities plus learn the performance. They perform for their graduation plus the two before that. I found a mom on here whose husband was graduating 2 weeks before my son. She took his picture (he played the tuba so it was easy to pick him out!) and sent me the picture. Well, I printed it out and sent it to him with a note that if he thought I knew everything he did in high school, now I know what he is doing in boot camp. He got it at the first mail call after the performance. Two and a half years later, he still talks about getting that picture.
Just read your email! That's such a great idea! Witty too. Bet your son still chuckles at this memory.
My SR is one of the "arch" boys who salute the higher ranking individuals when they enter the drill hall - it is harder for them because as jackieDNavyMom said - they have to train regular boot camp as well as for performance; but it also makes boot camp more interesting because they perform the two PIR's prior to their own.....I'm waiting anxiously for 6/8 PIR which will be the first one that my boy will be involved in. There are some great moms who have volunteered to take pics of those 8 boys saluting at the door for me! :)
Hope all is going well! Thanks for this note...I think my daughter is going to just do boot camp and not try for anything extra.
