I wonder if they have to house men and women in separate ships, I've only seen girls on this ship so far. Operations Specialist sounds interesting! At least I know (or think I know, anyway), Jaime is a Reservist, and will be stationed at home. She basically did this #1 to prove a point to everyone that she can do this, #2 to travel a bit and see places, and #3 to get the GI Bill for college. The field she wanted to study in is VERY hard to get a spot, it's for an X-Ray Tech, and everyone wants to get in! She has since changed her mind, and may want to go into Criminal Justice, so this job she will be doing, will help in that field. I think I will book my flight out on Sunday now, that's a happy medium. We can always spend the day in Chicago, there are plenty of things to do. We've been to Florida several times, but have never been to Chicago. I have a feeling, they will want them there to begin their school on Monday. That makes more sense to me, but I'm not the Navy. Hmmm, for some reason my font changed.

from what i have read some barracks have men and women together but it seems like our girls only have girls on their division.  I feel so in the dark about this whole process.  I have no clue when Cami will be going to A-School.  I dont know if it is right away or if she comes home.  I think I will also change my flight to come home Sunday.  Now I am debating wheather to leave on Wednesday or take the chance on weather and leave Thursday.  Cami has always mentioned wanted to join but I never too her serious.  She ended up getting a full scholarship to college for gymnastics and quit after 1 1/2 years.  She then joined the Navy - what she always wanted to do.  We too have been to Florida but never Chicago.  I will be flying into Midway and driving to Great Lakes

Hmmm, that would be interesting, having men and women in the same barracks, lol. I feel in the dark also, but I think that's the "norm". I'm banking on them flying out on Saturday or Sunday. In worse case, they will have to be without us for a day, but I'm sure they won't be alone. I'm sure a LOT of parents are flying out on Sunday. I'm not too worried about the weather, we're in Buffalo, and it takes a LOT to close down the airport! I will keep an eye on the weather, and if it looks bad for Thursday night, I'll try to change my flight to Weds night, or earlier in the day Thursday. I think we'll be fine. If worse comes to worst, we'll just stay at the airport, and get the first flight out, and go right from the airport to the training facility, and hope we make it on time. We're flying into Midway and driving there also. I did book the flights into Midway, we arrive around 6:00, so we're there at a decent time, can get a bite to eat and get to the hotel early. I want to get a good night's sleep and be at the base early. More than likely, I'll shower at night, so I can get up, have breakfast, and be on our way by 6:15. I want to try to beat the traffic rush and get their to go through all the military clearance. It says we need to provide insurance and registration on the vehicle we're driving no base. How do you do that with a rental car? I'm taking my own insurance card, a rental vehicle is covered under that, but what about the registration? I'm also taking my passport. Bob has FBI clearance, so he'll get right through.  That's too bad that Cami left college after a year and a half! She could have entered as an Officer if she had gotten her degree! What time is your flight into Midway, and which airline are you on? Maybe if we're lucky we can meet up at some point and follow each other, depending on where our hotels are. More than likely, we'll be going to either the Hilton Garden, or Homewood Suites, or something like that.

Hi Jamie. Have you heard anything from Cami yet? I was hoping they'd be able to call this past weekend, or I'd get a letter, but nothing yet. I'm sort of bummed, a lot of the other recruits are able to call home, and they went in the same day as our girls. Maybe this coming weekend. Jaime told me it might be 3 weeks before she could call me.

My daughter left Jan. 4th for BC.  We live in NC, and I received the box on the afternoon of January 10th.  I have not received the form letter yet.  I am anxiously awaiting it-checking the mail box with anticipation daily.  Good luck to you and your daughter.

My son went in on the 3rd - 02/914. I got his box on 6th and his form letter yesterday (the 12th)..

Mine tool. Look for the discussion forum above.

So I booked my flight today with Southwest.  Leaving Wednesday now.  I wanted to be safe since we are coming from California.  I arrive at 810pm.  I leave Sunday at 4pm.  I booked it Sunday just in case she doesn't leave for school until Sunday.  I will be able to make the meet and greet now.  I read somewhere that if you take a shuttle to the base you can just walk through.  I think ifyou bring your rental car agreement and insurance card you will be fine.  That is what I will bring.  I dont have a passport so I am hoping my ID will work.  I booked at the Navy Lodge.  It was only $66 a night with a full kitchen.  I also booked with Ramada just in case.  I would love to meet you and your family. Let me know what your schedule is.  I dont think my husband will make it.  We have a 23 month old daughter and don't think it is a good idea to bring her.  So right now its just me and our 12 yo.  My mother might also come.

My Husband is SHIP 02 DIV 915 :) Graduates March 2nd!
