My son opened an account on line at Navy Federal because there is not one near us. He is supposed to take a direct deposit form when he leaves this week. What does he do if he can't get the financial institution's portion completed

SailorMomNG - Your son should probably call Navy Federal and talk to a customer service rep. I may be wrong, but I think they are 24/7. They should be able to give him some guidance. Also, there is a NFCU branch at RTC. That doesn't mean it is easy for a SR to just go in whenever they need to but there is a branch right on site.

Thank you Chipmunk.  He has a local account as well.  Maybe he should use that one.  He's wishing he had waited till he gets to RTC to open his account.

Call NFCU tomorrow and ask them if the direct deposit form for military pay is available online. I am guessing it is probably a very common request, and can be printed right away.

I was able to download one and fill it in and my son took that with him and that worked.
We called them and it is taken care of. We had down loaded the form but looked like the financial institution had to approve. Thank you all for your help. I'm just overthinking everything at this point.

Sailor Mom NG - Deep breaths!! I know it feels like there is so much to do but there are thousands who know nothing of this site who still manage.  NFCU is amazing!! We started with them when my DH was in 30+ years ago and even though there were no branches near us we still managed.  It is even easier now!!  They have folks at BC to help walk new recruits through it all.  Our Son has had an account since before he was born but he still needed their help b/c he mailed home the direct deposit form in the BOX!!  I'm glad he got it figured out and that will save him time at BC for other stuff.
I know your anxiety levels may be high and you may be all over the place.  We get it here!! We have all been there.  You are not alone but among friends!!  We will continue to be here for all questions both big and small!! You got this, Momma!!

BelovedbyHim thank you so much. I have to admit that my anxiety level is pretty high right now. I'm feeling better about this situation.

Sailor Mom NG - Quickly glancing at other replies it looks like things are resolving. I figured you were concerned about the account being completely set up for actually putting money into the account.

Just FYI - NFCU had an Early Start Savings that my son was allowed to deposit up to $3000.00 in and earns a higher rate on it. He took his savings and did that, plus had them keep reinvesting his earnings. Double check on it if time. He had to have a DOD direct deposit within 30 or 60 days of opening his account, I think and so I started to panic when his paycheck did not go in as soon as I thought. I didn't know about N4M so called NFCU, but there is info on paydays on the BC Mom pages.

Not wanting to overwhelm with more info, but want you aware, if this is something he could take advantage of. We only knew about it going to the branch and them telling my son.

Also, the direct deposit form is probably not as important as him having his correct account information, thus why the form is nice. But I made sure my son had his with him last summer (6/2017) and later he told me they didn't even use the form they did their own, but at least I knew they had the correct account information.

Hang in there Sailor Mom NG!

Chipmunk - Thank you.  I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help.  I thought he was supposed to have the completed form with him but we did find out that the most important was to have the correct information and they would help him complete the rest when at BC. I just didn't want him to stress over something like that when he will have so much else to deal with. Thank you again

You are very welcome. I understand, there is a lot going in to getting ready to leave for BC, pay stuff included!!
