Hello, so my husband leaves for bootcamp June 6th, I read information under the form that says "what to do in the last month" and I think that's what overwhelmed me. I read something about a form you need to get from your bank called an 11 something. We have just a normal well known bank. Do I need to just give my husband a blank voided check? Or do I need to go up to my bank? Also I read something about sometimes only 3 people can go to graduation if his ship or something is 13 or more? Sorry for sounding so clueless.

Hi Carissa,

I can't help with the bank stuff, as I had two kids go through boot camp, not a husband. They just started their own bank accounts with Navy Fed for their pay. I am sure someone else here can help you with that!

As far as graduation, yes, it is usually limited to either 3 or 4 people. The PIR (graduation) is held indoors, and there is limited seating. His "ship" or division does not determine the number of guests, it depends on how many different divisions are graduating at the same time. If it is a lot, they have to limit guests to 3, and there is no way to change that or ask for an exemption. This will be set in stone. However, as many family members as you want can come onto base and watch the graduation live on tv from another building, if they cannot get in to see the live graduation. Your husband will fill out the list of 3 or 4 people that he has authorized to be at his graduation and only those on his list can attend the actual PIR. But then as soon as the ceremony is over, you will have all day (usually until about 7pm) to spend with your husband and of course all the family that came, even if they were not one of the 3 or 4 that got to attend the ceremony.

The time goes by fast, and I know its overwhelming and scary...but you will make it!

That number that is allowed to go to the Chapel to watch the Livestream has been limited at times and it is not an invitation for an unlimited number of family and friends to just show up since they are not guests if they are not on the Access List. It is best for those who are not on the Access List to stay in the hotel and watch the Livestream on a computer in the room or some hotels will show it somewhere on a large screen.

Go to your bank and get Form 1199A or he can take a blank check if you have decided to use your bank rather than Navy Federal.

The number who will be able to go into the Drill Hall for PIR will be based on the number of divisions in the TG. If it is 12 or less, then he will be able to put down 4 names on the Access List and if it is 13 or more, then he will only be able to put down 3 names. His PIR will either be the last Friday in July or the first Friday in August based on his ship date. Those have been small TG's of 9 or 10 divisions in the past since his ship week is just ahead of the large groups getting shipped during the summer months, but you will have to wait on the form letter to know for sure. Plan on him being able to put down four name, but be prepared for the possibility of only three.

Carissa, everything will fall into place, just spend as much quality time with your husband as possible.  My son was supposed to leave in September, his recruiter called him on Thursday and he was gone by the following Thursday April 6th.

I took him to the bank just before leaving that day also that same day in the morning he had to go to his high school to get his transcripts.

It seems like so long ago and actually it's been barely seven weeks form that call.  His PIR is 6/2.

This site will be very helpful.  Many blessings!

Thank you everyone, this actually helped a lot.

Welcome to the roller coaster Carissa!!

You may want to discuss joining Navy Federal Credit Union if he will be active duty.  Easier than changing banks with every duty station change.(Plus I LOVE the service and the fact they pay me for most stuff!!-- checking and savings)
Graduation you will be limited to 3 or 4 people as lemonelephant stated.  Unless you have more dependent children that cannot be left at the hotel leave everyone else at the hotel or home since they may not be allowed on base.  Depending on where he will go for A school you will have as little as a few hours if he is leaving GL to a couple of days if he is staying in GL with him.  It is a one morning event and then they are off on the next leg of their journey so time is limited!

It's ok to be clueless. We all were once!! ;)  You'll get this and then you'll be a vet mom/wife helping all the other newbies!!  Breathe and enjoy your time together as much as you can!!

(PS-- Write him a note and put it in his wallet for that first week of BC and ask him to tuck a note for you in the box to help for the first few disconnected weeks!!)

:)  It's ok!! We've all been there, done that and many of us have the T-shirt to proclaim it!!

Ugh. Everything is happening so fast. Thank you for answering my questions.
