My girlfriend was supposed to go to California for a school and now they're taking away her security clearance so she can't be a CTI and has to find a new job. I'm worried that she'll get sent to a school where gay marriage isn't legal yet and we won't be able to get married. I already called Lake county clerks office and they will start officiating same sex marriages on June 1st. Her PIR is on June 27th. They said that we could get it all done in one day if we file a waiver and pay a fee. What does she need to do while she's in boot camp? I know that she needs to get permission from her RDC. Is there anything else she needs to do? I told her in a letter that she needs to talk to her RDC and that we van use her liberty time on the day she graduates to get this done. Any info will be very helpful. Thanks.

You CANNOT be married PIR weekend. It is no longer permitted. When she arrives at "A" School she will have to put in a chit requesting permission to be married and follow the steps put forth at her new command.

I dont know that i can contribute anything helpful in the way of information, but if all else fails she will probably get a couple of weeks leave after A school. Possibly you could do it then in the state of your choice? Congrats to you both whenever and wherever you get to make it official!

Make sure that she asks during INDOC at "A" School (or the training command if she ends up with a contract in the Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT) Program) about getting married and what chit she will need to get, if she must have premarital classes (required at some commands and not at others), and when you will need to get married so that you will be on her orders.

Thanks for all the help. Her school will most likely be very long so we want to get it done as soon as we can so I can move close to her. We both do not do distance very well and most people say to wait until after a school because they will be too busy and stressed but having me live close to her would do more good than harm, for both of us. We're realizing now that we should've done it before boot camp but she was not in DEP very long. It all happened so fast!!

Since she must change ratings while in BC and that she had security clearance issues, she may not be offered one of her top choices, so she may have a short "A" School or training time. She will meet with the Career Counselor and will be given a new contract for a rating that she qualifies for or a contract within the Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT) Program if there are no contracts for a rating available. New contracts are based on the needs of the Navy and what is available at the time. Contracts for new ratings become available if a recruit or a soon to ship future Sailor with a contract for a rating is no longer eligible for the contract so not all ratings that she is eligible for will be on the table. This is because the Navy does not want a Sailor to be in holding after BC for an extended time if it can be avoided. Some "A" Schools do have hold times of several months, but the Navy does try to avoid that.
