Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Got Letters, Feel Worse :(
I got letters from my SR today and boy, he is really down. He is disappointed in himself already because he didn't pass the prone float and has to keep working on it. He passed the run (what I was worried about) in 12:10 but only did 42 pushups which he is disappointed in. He's in a push division so he's already in boots and NWV's (don't know what that is) and he's stressed because he has a shorter time to train. He kept saying he doesn't want to be there and I know the early weeks are tough but he said the only thing keeping him going is knowing the sooner he gets through, the sooner he'll get to see us.
At the time of his writing, he hadn't gotten any letters from me so I'm HOPING that my letters will help some. I tried to be super upbuilding and encouraging and told him I was praying for him.
I feel so bad for him. I knew it would be hard and so did he, but he's struggling. Maybe he'll get to call this weekend and that will help. Ugh, it never gets easier, does it?
The line that killed me was when he said, "I know you had high hopes for me, but I'm only starboard watch and I'm disappointed in myself". Poor kid!

MOMOF7 SEND LETTERS DAILY WHEN MY SON WAS IN BOOTCAMP HE WAS STRESSED AND WAS READY TO BE DONE, I WENT THROUGHT SANDBOX, THEY RECEIVE THE LETTERS THE NEXT DAY, ITS 4 DOLLARS A LETTER BUT ITS SO WORTH IT WHEN YOUR LOVED ONE IS STRUGGLING AND NEEDS TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Yep, I have been sending letters daily, just sent another one through Sandboxx! I'm hoping it helps. I know he has to do this and I know he will, it's just sad that he's having such a hard time.

how long has he been at boot camp?

17 days. He's already in the second week of training though because he's in a push division. It will only be 7.5 weeks total when he graduates, assuming he doesn't get delayed.

hello Momof7 have you tried sandbox to send him letters if not its a great site I know when my son was in boot camp it was rough for him, I sent him a letter daily and he said that helped a lot, its $4.00 a letter but it sure was worth it.

Dear Momof7, my son graduated from boot camp a year ago. This site was heaven sent to me, I can't imagine how I would have done it with out all the mother's input. My sailor had the same reaction you are describing... his first letters were very down, eventually they began to get better and at the end he was so proud of his accomplishment. Tell him to keep his eyes on the goal, graduation day is amazing, just thinking about it brings tears of joy and pride to my eyes. And the send of at the airport "O'Hare" was so touching. Tell him to hang in there, take one day at a time and soon he will be in your arms. This is your place for comfort and information, it was to me for the eight weeks he was at Great Lakes. God bless.

You are not alone! My son is super down on himself as well, I was afraid to read his letters when they came because I so wished his experience was better. I finally received a letter today that I saw a light in him, he is still struggling with a couple aspects but he also had a few things he was really proud of. His whole mindset is switching gears and I don't even think he knows it lol. Anyway I just wanted to share my experience and hopefully give you some hope that it will get better, even just a little at a time! Keep encouraging him, we mamas believe in our kids more than they believe in themselves!

Momof7 I'm sorry to hear this. It brings tears to my eyes. I agree with memaandpapa. Send letters, like you have been, encouraging him and letting him know how proud you are of him. I just sent a letter using Sandboxx. And I'll send more that way. I like that I can include photos. That makes it worth it, since all my photos are digital. Hang in there! I'll be praying for him and you.
