Not sure where on the site it is most appropriate to ask about graduation questions. I thought others might have the same or similar questions:

My son's basic training graduation date is set to be July 1st at Great Lakes (932 div) and I was wondering if he would have the 4th of July (Monday) free with us or would they send him on the school on the 4th of July. I'm assuming this would be a long weekend and we would get to spend the 4th with him before he leaves for school. I've tried to find out with the recruiters office but I haven't gotten an answer yet. Can anyone offer any information before we buy plane tickets?

Thanks, Anne

I hope you get an answer, I have asked it several times on this site and no one has reponded with an answer.  I asked my son's recruiter and he said that usually they ship out next day. (Saturday) But given the special celebration and the Holiday I was hoping things would be different. I hope we can get an answer soon. I'm sure once we start getting letters from our sons that this info will be included too. Can't wait for that first letter!!!

Hi Anne,

Someone just answered my questions on another group in this site. Said probably leaving Saturday morning, maybe even really early but we can go to the airport with them to see them off.

My husband is in the same division..... my only last hope is that MAYBE they would keep them around for some reason since they are in a "special" division, like if they needed them for some other performance that weekend.  I KNOW it's a long shot, but a girl can hope right??
Thank You Mominva. I guess it's better to know even if it not the news you wanted to hear, but I'll atleast be happy to see him for the one day on Friday. I'm still hopeful he might get to stay a little longer due to the 4th. Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know if I hear anything different.  Anne

Your SR's may not even know the answer til the week of PIR but maybe if you ask on the RTC facebook page they may have some info for the special weekend for you. The unfortunate truth is that they probably won't delay the ones that are going elsewhere for A-school, but the ones that stay in GL for A-school may get the extra day.

Thank you TexasSailorMom, I appreciate you taking time to answer. I'll ask on the RTC facebook page.

If your Sailor is going to school out of state, there is a big chance s/he will be leaving the following day.  The "special divisions" ie..the 900's will not be needed for events that weekend.  The only preformance they do are for bootcamp PIR.  The "A" School has their own students who make up a drill team, choir, ect...

Only person who will know 100% is your recruit when they are leaving for school.  The recuiter has no way of knowing when your recuit will be leaving for "A" School.

Thank You Angie. This is very helpful information.

From past experience the Navy doesn't care if  it's a holiday weekend.  They don't keep them around just because it's a holiday. The need to get them to the next destination.  Depending on where they are going they could still leave right after PIR or sometime Saturday.  My SR has already told me he most likely will leave immediately after PIR not what I wanted to hear.  I'm still hoping things change but it is the Navy way not my way.

Thank You! I'm leaning toward making my departure flight for Saturday...still holding out and waiting for his first call home to find out if he by chance knows anything otherwise. He's been in since May 10, so I'm expecting that 1st call any day now.

Thank You,

Anne

We have our hotel through the 4th of July weekend.  Since we are traveling a distance, we'll make it our vacation time too.  Want to have as much time with our SR as possible.  From what I have read, we can meet them at the airport too when they fly out for additional visit time.  We'll all 1/3 of the way there.  :)
My son called on Wed.  He will be going to Pensacola on Sat - I tried to sound happy when he said - we'll have all of Friday!  It's tough, I too wanted the whole weekend.  But, I'll be soooo happy to see him and sooooo proud!
