My husband dropped off our Son at the recruiters yesterday at 2pm. Just waiting for the first call. Also wanted to put this out there. We live 30 mins from Great Lakes. IF your young adults need a place to go during Holidays or just for the weekend we are more than happy to host. We want to be able to give back as much as we possibly can. Super excited we are almost Navy parents :) Our son said its bad luck until he officially graduates to say it.
Sushicat242000-- Welcome! You will find a ton of information in the main page of the Boot Camp Moms. It sounds like you are ready to go!!
Sushicat242000 Welcome to Navy Moms, This is so Wonderful of you to do. I live in Phoenix, AZ and my Son stayed in GL for A school. When Thanksgiving was coming around I was really worried, His Favorite time. Worried that he would be alone. He did get Adopted for Thanksgiving and it was such a Wonderful feeling that he was able to share this Holiday with a Family. He even offered to say Grace, He's a good kid. So Thank You, If you would like to Adopt a Sailor who's Family couldn't make it to PIR your Son can find out and set it up for you to also have that Sailor on PIR Day.
Generally how long is it between the time he leaves for Boot Camp until the first call? He left yesterday at 2pm and like I said its only 30 mins to Great Lakes for us
He just called. I was a little nervous. It felt like forever.
I'm sure the minutes feel like hours...or days! How nice that you are so close to Great Lakes. My son leaves 7/9 so we still have a little family time left but I'm definitely starting to have emotional moments and nervous moments.
WaterLily **It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."
Thank you B'sNukeMom. Yes, we're very aware of those standards. My son has dropped over 30 lbs (from his football season weight) and is running & working out daily. I'm so proud of how hard he's working.
That's great! Sounds like he's ready to go ;-D
