I'm a new Navy Mom. We live in Houston.

Our one and only called around 10:30 last night. He made it safely. Boot camp has officially begun for him.

If it's possible I am the happiest and the saddest I've ever been, all at the same time. So incredibly proud of Daniel.

I'm a bit lost . . but I wanted to say hello.

Praying for our sailors.

Julia77079 - we are glad that you are here and visiting with us. If you look on the BC Mom group page, below the discussion area there is a comment wall. That is where we do most of our daily commenting and chatter. Not everyone notices the discussions so you will have more replies to things you post in the comment area.

Thanks Chipmunk. I will join BC Mom page.

Julia

Welcome Julie! My “one and only” went to boot camp in August. It was hard but somehow he liked it. Best decision he ever made. He loves being in the Navy and is applying himself like never before. He’s at Goose Creek studying nuclear power until next year sometime. Making lots of great friends. So proud of himself. It makes missing him easier. After he left, I spent the first few weeks crying at anything that reminded me of him. Put all his things away. Then I built him a “shrine” in the family room with lots of photos, navy memorabilia, blue candles, decorated an anchor, etc. It will remain there indefinitely!  Please know your pride and happiness will push out most of the sadness over time. You may want to join the Bootcamp group. Lots of support there!

Thank you so much for your warm thoughts and words of encouragement.

Things are always hardest for the "Moms", I think. I'll be alright, just hafta get used to our new normal.

He will be in Chicago through A & C school, as far as we know now. He enlisted for 6 years.

Welcome!! Please read my blog to give you an idea of what the first few weeks may look like.. First Things First-- The Quarantine Edition Up and to the Left is a link to all the Navy Lingo! It is titled Navy Speak and you can find it here. We are here to get you through the “Great Silence” of the next 4 weeks (ish) and the 10 weeks of BC (ish). You will come to learn that No News Is GOOD News and everything is Needs of the Navy. You life will be Hurry Up and Wait and it’s ok to make plans but they are subject to change until after they have happened so it’s best to embrace the Motto: Semper Gumby!! (Always Flexible!!)

The Expected timeline will look like this
Day 0 -- Travel, Arrival and "I'm Here" scripted phone call

Week 1&2
Day 1-14 -- ROM (Restriction of Movement/ Quarantine-- Lots of studying and waiting) Unless they are Fully Vaccinated (2 weeks after final shot) in which case they skip straight to Week 3.

Week 3
Day 15-21 Arrive Onboard RTC and begin P-days (P-days- Initial Processing Days) including 2 days of P-hold (Weekend)
Day 21-- Complete P days. (Initial PFT & Run)

Week 4- First week of training
Day 22-- Begin training and mail form letter out. Look for it to arrive around 1-2 weeks later

Week 5 -- First inspections and tests (Dental May be this week or next... Not Confirmed)(Form letter/ Personal letters usually arrive this week)

Week 6 -8 -- More training, Drilling (Flags and Marching), Fire Fighting training, Marlinspike (Line handling- How to tie up a Ship to the Pier) and weapons lessons, Confidence chamber( May or may not be happening yet, we don’t know for sure).. Warrior training in here somewhere.

Week 9 & 10 -- Stressful!! They have all their final inspections, PFA, Drills, BS21 and Tests. This is the lead up to the end!!

All of this is assuming no exposure to COVID with additional ROM
Training typically occurs Monday - Friday but we have heard rumors that Saturday’s are now training days as well.
Normal PIR will be 10 Fridays after departure from Home but it can be less by 1 but it can be extended by ???? (lots!!) It just depends on how many times they get caught in the “Ring of Fire” but do not get COVID. IF they get COVID, Once they are recovered they will not be removed from training again even if they are in the “Ring of Fire”. (so there is that small silver lining if kids get sick)
I Hope you’ll come and join us on the Main Boot Camp Moms page: https://navyformoms.ning.com/group/bootcampmoms You may have to scroll down a ways to reach the comments but we’d love to get to know you and answer any questions or concerns you may have or just be a support from others who “get it”.

Thanks so much for all of this information!

Julia - if your son is staying in GL for school and if they have PIR opened up by then, you will likely have a little more opportunity for visiting with him after PIR than those of us who had our sailors fly out to their A school.

Back in the day - as I sort of feel like it was now, when we were all on the BC Mom group planning for our trip to PIR, there was a lot of information (which is still posted in the files) about getting motels, flight reservations and making sure to schedule and book with places where you could cancel or change flights. That information is just as pertinent now as then with the possibility of things opening, you plan for what you hope and expect, and then you tell yourself you have to be flexible and prepare for the let down and disappointment if it doesn't work out. At least that is how I deal with things with Navy life.

Julia77079 - How are you doing? Be sure to come post and visit with us in the BC Mon group - We seem to be having some glitching going on so we are not always getting all of the comment feeds to our emails, so be sure to check out the group page on a daily bases.

I'm ok.. . well, not really but I will be. It's been 1 week. Still trying to get used to the quiet. Thank you for checking in on me.

I know exactly how you feel! I received my scripted “I’m here” call about an hour ago! It’s awful to hear your child sound scared when there’s nothing you can do to help!! Prayers for our sailors and their mommas!!

Momofasailor - be sure to check your profile page and be sure to come visit and chat with us in the BC Mom group if you haven't already.

The whole time he was talking, I just said "I love you". It's been 1 week and I'm still trying to get used to the quiet.
