Our son left Charlotte, NC today for BC. So very proud of him but what an emotional day. He called for 2 minutes and said he would call back in an hour. At 10:27pm we haven't received that call. We're assuming things got crazy and he didn't have a chance. Any other Mamma's out there feeling these indescribable emotions of letting go?

Oh my gosh! Our son also left today from Charlotte, NC! Our son called at 10:03 and we talked about 20 seconds. I was told it would be very short and scripted so don't be upset if he doesn't call back. I have been struggling for the past week and today I just took the day off from work because I knew I would be a mess after leaving him at the MEPS. I'm here for you and right there with you!
My son has been there for a few weeks now, but it's still hard. I write him every day. I can get through a day without crying now. It'll get better. The first 3 weeks were the hardest. Eases up from there a day, letter and phone call at a time.
God bless you. Roughest day ever!!!
My son left for GL July 20. The first couple weeks with no contact was pretty rough on us. We've had a couple phone calls now though and several letters. He is doing well. Hang in there! I would like to tell you that time goes fast, but I am waiting for that to happen. I am so proud though, (as we all should be)! My son is Joey too, so your post caught my eye. I was trying to figure out what I had posted. LOL My thoughts are with you and your recruits!
Hang in there! My son leaves Wednesday and I am caught between holding on to every second and just wanting Wednesday to be over to figure out our new normal. I'm like a pressure cooker and the most random things will set me into tears. His three little brothers are devestated that he's leaving. We are all so proud of him but will miss him so much.

JennBNavyMom, I left info on your My Page that will help you as you prepare for him to leave.

Hi Tanae and joeysmom! You are not alone; it is so hard letting go. Start writing now. These young folks need letters during boot camp for support and encouragement. I wrote a couple times in the first two weeks, and it was not enough! You'll get a letter in the next week or so with the address to send letters (don't use the address on the box you'll receive). I suggest having a few ready to go. Our son let me know he needed more contact with friends and family through letters when we got to talk at the end of week two. He just told me a few days ago that the letters and cards got him through. One other thing about the letters. I would ask questions in every letter, and he would not answer my questions bc he didn't have my letters in front of him when writing to me. So I sent a questionnaire with a whole list of questions for him to circle yes or no. I loved getting that questionnaire back in his letter! You might try this if you're not getting questions answered. Best wishes to you both. Prayers for peace and comfort in the coming weeks!!

Joeysmom, welcome to the next part of the journey.

I left some info for you on your My Page.

Thank you so much. Both, my husband and I cry everytime we say his name. He is an Eagle in Scouting and such a wonderful young man. I know he will do great. We're the ones that weren't prepared. Thank you so much! This site is so helpful.

Joeysmom, be sure to check out the info I left on your My Page. Click on the MY PAGE tab above or click on your profile pic in any of your comments and it will take you to your My Page.

Hi Joeysmom, I'm from Charlotte also. My daughter went to BC August 7th. He gets a call when they get checked in at BC telling you he made it and after that it will be several weeks, unfortunately.

Thank you ncdeb. It's so nice to meet you!
