My son left Sept. 5th from Portland, Oregon. He is on Ship 03 DIV. 359 and graduates on Nov. 2nd, he will be going to Pensacola Florida for A school. Dose any one have a son or daughter that left the same time or is in his division?

Join the group, PIR 11/02/2012 TG 51, to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.  Know that Divisions 359 and 360 are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 together, so look for others with loved ones in either division.  There is a discussion within that group for the two divisions.

You may wish to join, or at least check out, Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!! and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola.  What will his rating (job) be?  There are groups for many of the ratings there as well.

What is Battle Station 21 mean, and is that the day before graduation? do you know if there is a family day? I don't know anything and i feel like a lost puppy?

BS21 is their final test that they do on a simulated ship overnight before they become sailors...it can be any night starting about a week before graduation, depending on how many divisions have to do it but the last night it takes place is the Wed night before graduation I believe.  They do not have a family day. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask...if I don't know the answer, I can try and find it for you.  This is my second time having a son in boot camp.

Viola, we've all been in your shoes at some point and this was all new to us.  Let me expand on the info spontino gave you.

Battle Stations-21 is a 12 hour evaluation program with 17 ship board scenarios from missile attacks that can cause fires to flooding caused by exploding undersea mines.  Recruits also stand watches on the bridge and are tasked with engineering scenarios, lookout scenarios, and mass casualty drills.  Battle Stations is conducted several times a week, at night, on board USS Trayer (BST 21), a 210-foot-long Arleigh Burke-class destroyer simulator.  One to four divisions participate in Battle Stations-21 at one time.

Once your SR completes Battle Stations-21, there is a capping ceremony and the recruits change their RECRUIT ball caps for a NAVY ball cap and the recruits are officially Sailors.  Usually that afternoon or evening loved ones receive the "I'm a Sailor!" call.  The "I'm a Sailor!" call can come on any weekday (F, M-Th) beginning on the day of the previous week's PIR (10/26/2012) to the day before his PIR (11/01/2012).  We received the call as we were driving up on the Thursday before PIR.  Those calls begin 2ish pm and end 8ish pm Central Time.

Usually someone keeps track of the BS-21 dates when recruits have let loved ones know when they will be and then sends a PM  everyone in the PIR group to let them know.  (diannep used to do it and she may still do it.)  Ask your recruit for the date, but don't post it openly.

Craig has posted a powerpoint that helps to explain Battle Stations-21.  See the Attachments in his Discussion, ~ Boot camp for Dummies (with Pictures) ~.

No, there is no family day, the first time you will see you Sailor is at PIR.  The confusion comes because there are Meet and Greets the night before PIR, but those are for the loved ones of the new Sailors to get together and none of the new Sailors are present.  There are 3 Meet and Greets.  Sarge's has been getting good reviews lately and I suggest that you attend it, but you may also have time to stop by for part of one or both of the others as well.  Here are the links to them:  PIR 11/02/2012 SARGE'S MEET AND GREET, PIR 11/2/2012 Flanagan's Meet & Greet, and PIR 11/02/2012 Ramada Meet and Greet.

You may wish to join Airman Family and Friends and/or Naval Aviation.

My son is in div 358, going to A school in Pensacola also...he went in as ABH, how about your son?

I don't know what ABH is but my son went in as Air Crewman.

He has a friend there that went in as a nuke but he is two weeks ahead of my son

ABH is Aviation Boatswain's Mate - Handling.

I had to look up info on Naval Aircrewman.  Here are the most helpful links I found:  http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/Graphic-Elements/Rating-Factsheets/AIRC-AI... and http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/enlisted/community/aviation/P....

My daughter is also on Ship:03 Div. 359. However, she'll be staying in Great Lakes for A school.

What will her rating be?  I see you have joined the CS (Culinary Specialist) Moms; "A" School for that moved from GL to Fort Lee, VA.  If she has a different rating that does have "A" School at GL, you may want to join, or at least check out, Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms.  The TSC also has a facebook page (Training-Support-Center-TSC-Great-Lakes Facebook Page).

(Group names and the facebook link within this reply are clickable links.)

CS. Thanks for letting me know...her recruiter told us it was in Great Lakes. Well at least we won't have to wait up to 5 hours for A school processing after graduation.

Yes, some recruiters do not keep up with the changes that occur.  Know that she will probably fly out the day after PIR.  About a week before PIR, send her an index card to write down her flight details for you to give you after PIR so you can meet her at the airport and give her her cell phone and other things she will want (favorite underwear are biggies for many; the guys are tired of the "tighty whities" and the gals are tired of the "granny panties") to put in her black backpack.
