Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Mail: how much is too much?
I read a post about the possibility of a SR getting "8" for mail? Can someone explain? how much mail is too much? what kind of mail is likely to produce consequences verbal or otherwise?

Marty ~ I sent my son a letter a day and he was in an 800 division, there was not a problem with the quantity. However, no musical cards, no perfume, no SWAK, no separate photos for their division. I printed the photos in the letter, and copied and reset the font from newspaper articles about his favorite sports teams. Only POSITIVE mail for our recruits. Hope this helps. :)

I do not know what "getting 8 means" (please explain because I am new to this) but I am assuming it is not nice. I was worried because the first two letters I sent were in a blue envelop and we wrote all over the envelop lots of "We miss you", "we love you" and "xoxoxoxoxo". Then I read that that was a no no because we do not want to send anything that can give our SRs too much attention. I felt terrible, but my SR says he had no problems, but not to send blue envelops again just in case :)
I send him 2 letters daily. One from me and hubby and one from his younger siblings. And I know my dad writes him at least 2 times a week, his aunts do and also his girldfriend writes him. So he is getting a lot of mail and so far no problems. He did say that some SRs are not getting mail, which saddens me. I will start sending cards for these SRs. He also said time to read is limited and that now he reaaaally appreciates sleep time :) so when he has "free" time he sleeps.

In my son's old division if the envelope had SWAK of lipstick or perfume - the recruit had to do numerous push-ups and kiss the envelope every time he went down on the push up

It all depends on the RDC too. Some give PT for colored envelopes and extra steps and some don't. Best bet is to be safe and not do it though.

"getting 8" most likely refers to having to do 8-Count Body Builders (See http://pecworkout.net/seal-fit-8-count-body-builder.php.).

there is no such thing as too much mail! (chiming in here). Trust me on that. My son gets tons of mail from me, his family and his friends! It's always the plain white envelopes. No more than 4 sheeps of paper in any envelope. Single stamp. I DID send him the manila envelope with a self addressed envelope inside (storage if he so needs OR he can send some of his letters home for me to hold on to).
He really appreciates everything I send him! I started sending him lyrics to some music he likes and I like. Wouldn't you know it? In a letter he asked me to send him some more lyrics. He said he can hear the song in his head but he can't remember the words. :)
They really do appreciate ALL the mail! He says it helps keep him focused. Now when he writes to me? My boy talks to me just he used to. Normally he's real closed up and stoic about everything. His letters get longer and longer each time.
No such thing as too much. :P -
